Debenhams Returns

Can anyone help me. I purchased a Jasper Conran leather bag from Debenhams the beginning off september. Yesterday the zip puller snapped off and shock horror I cant find the receipt. Does anyone know if you can return things to Debenhams without a receipt (like M&S). Not sure if you can buy JC stuff anywhere else.

Not sure but just go in and cause a fuss if they start to object!!!

Whimsy - under the Sale of Goods act you do not need a receipt if you are returning a damaged item. They can choose to repair the item rather than exchange it though!

Would only need one if you had simply changed your mind and wanted to return it.

Thanks, will take it back and see what they say

I would phone and explain and get the name of the person you spoke to. If you paid by card or cheque, it will be on your statement and that's a perfectly acceptable proof of purchase if you want a refund. Some places are funny about refunding without proof of purchase, even if goods are broken.

You certainly used to be able to (I worked for them until ds was born!!) and especially since it sounds faulty. AFAIK it is still an exclusive label apart from in the JC boutiques but the sku number on the label inside will prove that you purchased it from them even if there are none left. However without receipt or other proof of purchase (such as a Credit Card or bank statement)they may only offer the price it is currently in store at (ie. less than you paid if it is in the Sale) or an exchange.

Went in last week during sale and was surprised to see a notice saying if something was reduced by over 50% you could only return it for an exchange, not a refund, even with the receipt. Thought this was a bit antiquated for a department store and certainly put me off buying anything.

Boomama - I don't think thats legal is it? even if they put a notice up - if you have the receipt you should be able to get a refund.

If there was something wrong with it, i.e it was faulty, the sign is irrelevent. If you were just returning it because you changed your mind, they don't have to refund.
