Zip car with a baby

Hi there,

Posted this in parenting but just in case this is a better forum... does anyone have any experience with Zipcar, particularly if you have a baby? Thanks!

Not Zipcar, but a different car club. Any use?

What do you want to know? We live in a small city, DH is a SAHP, I work full time and commute by train (though when DC1 was first born we both went part time - he was WFH). Now have 2DC.

What's your situation? We were a car-free family pre-kids, and have stayed that way. It works for us, but we are fortunate to live near the centre of a city with reasonable transport links.

Baby-wise, I'd say you need a travel system so you can wheel the seat to the car, then when they are a bit older you will have to make decisions about portability of car seat vs ERF which many on this forum might not approve of. My take on it is that portability allows me to take the seat on a train which is safer than driving, plus also allowing me to live car-free.

DC1 (7) gets a bit whingey about not being able to go places at the drop of a hat - we tend not to get a car unless it's a necessary journey so our day trips etc are by train. But we're bringing her round to the environmental benefits.

DC2 (2) is completely train and bus obsessed! We were planning a holiday to the IOW in a couple of months which would involve a hovercraft - that would have blown his mind! Maybe next year.

I use zipcar. I like it - live in central London.

I appreciate being able to choose an appropriate vehicle - something super small when it is just me, something a bit bigger for going to Ikea and one of the premium marque cars when i went to a friends wedding recently....

No baby though.

I don't rent a car very often and have just inherited one. It will be interesting to see if my car habits change now I have my own.
