Last weekend i used my sil's changing table and really liked it - having all the stuff close to hand and in one place was brillant.

DD is 2 1/2 but will be in nappy for quite a while also in the neae future were hoping for no2.

So question -
are they worth it?
which one would you recomend??

many thanks in advnce

Think there was a thread on this quite recently Fairydust.

I think they are a waste of money personally, but then it's like dishwashers for me - I've never had one so I never missed it! I know lots of people swear by them so I guess it's up to you!

I just have a box with everything in it and actually I have one upstairs and one downstairs so wherever I am there's one close at hand (got 2 ds's in nappies atm). Then I just change them on the floor.

I am a foot in both camps - we did not have one for dd - just changed her on the bed on a change mat - or on the floor if down stairs.... like Skate - just had two boxes with everything in it at hand. Dd is now 26 months old - still in nappies and will be for a while... just change her on her bed.

However - no2 is due soon and a friend is lending me a change table... not sure if I will love it or not. Will let you know.... I think if we were not borrowing one we would not buy one -iyswim. Just change the new babe on our bed or floor.

I loved mine. I had one that had the bath underneath so it was great. Everything was right at hand and I never had to bend over when bathing or changing DS. I had a Mamas and Papas one but I can't remember what it was called. It has since left us and been round 3 other mums who thought it was great. It wasn't the bigger bulky type. It had a sort of basket thing underneath and a rack for all the toiletries.

sister is possibly lending me one (dpends if i can find room for it in the bungalow).

ikea do a cheap one

smellymelly · 09/10/2004 10:06

I had the ikea one, and painted it. I only used it for my 2nd baby, and it was ok for a while, but I never felt very safe with her so high up. It is now used for all her stuffed teddy's!

We have an Ikea one which was very cheap (matched all the other cheap Ikea furniture in DS's room!)and we have used it every day for 2y and 9m (now DS2 uses it as well!)My DH finds it particularly useful as he's very tall and doesn't like changing nappies on the floor etc. It fits on top of a chest of drawers so we can take it off and still have the drawers when we finally get out of nappies!

gingernut · 09/10/2004 12:40

We have one that is a storage unit (useful for clothes/bedding) with a wide changing table top on it. The top can be taken off once you don't need it as a changing station any more, leaving a stand alone unit (photo of something similar here , look under baby furniture, for e.g. Tommy range). I used to use it to change ds if we were upstairs. TBH found changing on the floor just as easy, but we needed a storage unit in his room anyway.

deegward · 09/10/2004 13:43

Ikea here as well, ours is the one which is the chest of drawers as well. Had one for ds1 and now hw has the additional shelf unit on top so look like a dresser type of thing. Bought a new one for ds2 and still using as changing table. Love it

poppyseed · 09/10/2004 13:51

I worry about the safety of them tbh. I think that they are probably very handy when they're small but they're like that for such a small amount of time! I use the floor, with a changing mat on it in the bathroom, or when I feel old () I use the single bed in DS's room. I just think that I could spend the money on so many other things......

TraceyP · 09/10/2004 15:49

With my knees getting down on the floor was never going to be on, so our changing table was invaluable. We got one from Ikea which folds up into the wall so we could still use the space underneath it for storage, and it served us really well.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2004 15:52

I used an Ikea Ivar desk combo which I already had. The advantage being that it was completely height adjustable, was wider than a normal change table and we could change them "end on" rather than side on IYSIM.

deegward · 09/10/2004 16:16

Mine have always been told DON'T MOVE, and they haven't! Changed ds1 on it until he was out of nappies so 2.5 - 3

yurtgirl, saw them today. am gonna possibly measure my cot to see if they fit. as the room is small i dont think my sisters changing table will fit. do you think if i fix a shelf above the cot it would work similar to a trable with everything being to hand?

soapbox · 09/10/2004 20:28

Misdee - some cheaper versions from D&A toys!
