Wellies for wide feet!

karen99 · 08/10/2004 13:08

Hi, can anyone help with this one? My ds has size 5 1/2 (22eur) width H feet (very wide!) and after speaking with several places (Clarkes, JL) they said that most wellington boots come in width E and even if I did manage to squeeze a pair onto my ds he would be very uncomfortable in them.

Soooo, does anyone know where I can buy wide wellies or an alternative to cover his normal shoes?

Many thanks

karen99 - Do you have a farmers supplies store near you? I often get my children's wellies from our local one. Hth.

Thanks tiptop.. we're in NWLondon, not many farms round here, but my parents live out in the sticks so I'll ask them to check one out. Thanks

sorry, farms or farm supply stores!

karen99 - I need to go to the local store soon and I'll ask if the childrens wellies come in a H fitting in any of the makes. I'll update you once I've been.

aww, you star, tiptop! That would be a great help.

I have since found these but they are only up to age 2 and I think size 5.5 is more than this Will look some more to see if I can find something like this for kids. Wellies, however, would definitely be my first choice!

Ds is only 15 months but has huge feet

My dd is an H fitting too, and even then we usually have to go up a size to get the width, and the only place I can get wellies to fit her is, surprisingly enough, Mothercare (whose shoes DON'T fit her). It might be worth a try.

Arabica · 08/10/2004 19:58

DS is an H fitting but cheapo Woolies wellies always seem to fit him.

karen99 · 10/10/2004 22:51

Brilliant! Thanks for the other places to check out. Funnily enough I hadn't even thought of them for wellies!

bundgaard do cool wellies that would even fit a hobbit's foot

While on the subject of wide feet, do any of you know where I can get wide fitting plimpsoles for my son (size1). His school insist on thwem having them, but even the Velcro ones from Clarks are far too tight for him.

tiptop · 12/10/2004 22:28

PopsP - No, sorry, I don't. Have you tried Woolworths? Apart from them, I've no ideas. Sorry.

karen99 - I asked today and they only come in standard width fittings. I would have taken a closer look to see if there was more info, but they didn't have any on display. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck!

Thanks for checking tiptop, really appreciate it.

Seems like there's a gap in the market for wide fitting kids shoes!

Sorry PopsP, my ds is only 16mo so haven't reached plimsoles yet.. looks like we'll have the same problems...

Getting wide fitting kids shoes is a pain in the proverbial. My little girl is an H fitting, like someone else said we usually have to go up a size to get anything remotely wide enough. Elephenten and StartRite don't fit her, and half the time neither to Clarks. Anyone know anywhere else that's good for wide fitting feet? And that don't assume that only tiny narrow footed girls want pretty, girlie shoes?

Arabica · 16/10/2004 01:58

It may be easier to get shoes for wide boys rather than wide girls, because although DS is an H, we have never had a problem except when trying to get him ballet shoes, when we had to go up two sizes! Makes we've found a reliable fit are Ecco (they have a website you can look at to find stockists and check styles)and Bundgaard. Good luck finding some pretty shoes for your DD.

WigWamBam · 16/10/2004 17:15

Thanks Arabica. I suspect you're right that they make boys shoes wider than girls, my daughter did have a pair of standard fitting boys winter shoes last year, but she's now gone all girlie and pink and is desperate for pretty shoes. I haven't come across Bundgaard and I've not tried Ecco as our local one doesn't do kid's shoes but I'll check their websites out. Thanks!
