Dolls house dilema

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 10:48

I have decided to get my Dd's a dolls house between them for xmas. Dd1 will be 7 and Dd2 will be 5.

So which one ????

So far it is between the ELC georgian one, the pink one at letterbox.co.uk and the playmobile one.

I'm getting confused

Honey - don't get the ELC one it is a rip off of the Plan one and not as well made at all - Plans prices have come down a lot since they took over their other german counterpart and ELC ripped off their biggest seller!!

We got DDs from www.toy-choice.co.uk/ and just buy the bits for the insode from ELC.

Info above was given to us by a lovely lady who runs a traditional toyshop in Somerset - she said the Plan one would last a lot longer as was made much better!!

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 11:07

Ah thanks Twinkie, will have a look at that.

Do you think the furniture from ELC fits most of the houses around ???

Dd2 realy likes this one

Ours is from Toys R us, is great and furniture is from there and ELC.
Plan ones are great though.

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 11:26

Yeah they do look great, am having a browse now and getting more confused.

You'd think it would be simple would you ??

Oh and do any of you think 7 is too old for a dolls house ????

Agree with Twinkie that ELC versions aren't as good as Plan or pintoys.

I've seen the letterbox one your dD loves in Daisy&Tom, TBH I'm not convinced it's as sturdy as the plain wooden ones (or as spacious) but it is very pretty.

i don't think your girls are too old BTW

misdee · 08/10/2004 12:27

if you can afford to splash out a bit (dont know what your budget is) the dolls house emporium do some fabulous dolls houses for children. here some of the 'older' houses are really great, and very tempting.

my dd's have a very sturdy handbuilt one. its at least 30yrs old and was made by a gentleman for his kids, then his grandkids, then i bought it for my girls for £40. when i say its sturdy i mean that, dd2 is constantly climbing onto of it and jumping off.

katzguk · 08/10/2004 12:31

have you seen the one on datoys website it beautiful and reduced to £30 from £150

house

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:44

Misdee- I was looking on there earlier, aren't they lovely.

Katzguk - I looked at that the other week, but was confused as to why it was from age 14 yrs and there was no piccie of the front.

Twinkie · 08/10/2004 12:48

Nutty get it for thatprice and then go to B&Q and get wallpaper samples and decorate it and have a hunt for lovely things to fill it with the money you would have saved - can be your little project (which will help you feel useful and keep you busy) and can be like an heirloom that gets passed down to your grand kids!!

Twinkie · 08/10/2004 12:53

And nutty lady in trad toy shop said - when I said that DD hardly plays with her dolls house - that 5 - 9 were the best ages to get them one as she found girls played with them far more at that age than the 3 year old we had bought it for!!

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:54

I have just emailed them to ask why it is from 14yrs as it is similar in szie to all the others i've looked at.

OP posts:
katzguk · 08/10/2004 12:54

think it might be because it needs to be constructed - i.e its flat packed

there are a fedw on ebay with starting prices in excess of the £30 this shop is selling them for!!!

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:55

So do you all think the one on the D&a sirte is o.k even though it says from 14years ???

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 08/10/2004 12:55

The DA toys one looks gorgeous. Maybe it's for older children because it's more suited to the delicate "proper" dolls house furniture?

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:55

sorry cross posted.

OP posts:
katzguk · 08/10/2004 12:57

like soupdragon says it may not take the rough and tumble aswell as the ELC one but none of the ebay ones spefic an age

katzguk · 08/10/2004 12:58

re the picture when i click on the link i can get both a picture of the front of the house and the inside

wish my DD was big enough for one!!

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:58

am just wondering if the elc furniture would fit in it though.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:59

mind you could get the stuff off there i suppose as i will of saved that much

OP posts:
nutcracker · 08/10/2004 12:59

yeah i got the front piccie too now.

OP posts:
katzguk · 08/10/2004 13:00

the size of the da house is about the size of the ELC one

katzguk · 08/10/2004 13:01

ELC furniture is nice though!! don't forget if you order online then there's a 20% discount using the HL1 (i think) as an order code for ELC

soapbox · 08/10/2004 13:02

I really like the DAtoys one too!

Last year ELC was doing decorating sets, wallpaper and fabrics - you could buy one and do it up - like Twinkie suggests!

nutcracker · 08/10/2004 13:03

Think i will order it and then decide about the furniture after i've seen it.

OP posts:
katzguk · 08/10/2004 13:03

my only critism of the datoys one is the open plan layout of the downstairs!
