Is it worth buying one to cut back on the plastic bottles I buy , also which one is best

It may not be a cost effective move, but it certainly does cut back on plastic. As to what model, that really is up to your budget and what you specifically need. I have only ever had the basic one and it is fine, I use it daily. It also means I do not have to have another electric cable in the kitchen.

I have the basic one. We got it precisely for this reason and we no longer buy any bottled water. We don't buy any of the syrups so I don't know what they're like. I'm missing it at the moment as the canister ran out weeks back!

I drink a lot of soda water so our soda stream has definitely cut down our plastic waste. I think ours was about £70-80 and our gas canister has lasted 3 months ish. I either have soda water plain or with ordinary cordials in it, If you want diet coke I don't think it's a massive financial saving when you take in it account the syrup. We really do get a lot of use out of ours and it handy when I just want a glass or two rather than opening a bottle of soda.

We brought the basic model, really easy to use, and reduced our plastics, we like the diet cola concentrate that is aspartame free.

grannycake · 20/04/2020 11:36

i also have the basic model and use it for sparkling water It has vastly reduced the plastic I use but I think it does cost more

Winesalot · 20/04/2020 11:53

I also don't use the concentrates, usually plain or with a cordial/squash from the supermarket. Or with some iced tea that I have made up in a drinks bottle and add a little of that with plain soda water.

I do have two bottles that I keep in the fridge and on hot days, they both get used.

Love our soda stream, use it for making plain fizzy water but you can also get little bottles of highly concentrated flavour that you can just add a couple of drops to a glass if you don't want to make the whole bottle flavoured. But the syrups are good too, the Mirinda orange one is so so good, best orangeade there is.

We got one to try and cut down on the amount of Diet Coke we drink Blush it was a good investment from our perspective, I tend to have a couple of glasses a day, usually with a dash of squash as I’m not wild about the taste of London water. Agree the basic one is great - not fighting for plug space with the toaster, kettle, bottle steriliser and George Foreman on the counter!

RomaineCalm · 20/04/2020 22:54

We bought the basic one - I think it's the 'Spirit' as we were going through 6-7 plastic bottles of sparkling water every week.

I'm not sure how it compares cost-wise but a cylinder lasts us around a month and we use it every day.

We tried some of the syrups initially but now tend to just add a splash of normal squash/cordial.

InDubiousBattle · 21/04/2020 09:19

Has anyone tried the diet coke? Is it any good and where did you get it from? I've been put off because on the soda stream website it seems you can only buy 6 bottles of the concentrate at once and I just want one to try!

Winesalot · 21/04/2020 10:07

I have tried the Diet Coke syrup. I am a strict Diet Coke or Pepsi Max drinker and I did not take to the Soda Stream version (I tried so that I would get off the aspartame.) But I am a fussy bugger, I will admit Grin.
