*DOUBLE BUGGIES -REAR FACING?*

I want to buy a double buggy for a newborn and a two and a bit-year old to share. I'd love any advice on which to buy, and specifically to know if:

  • any models allow the baby to face rearwards.
  • Any models can be separated into two separate buggies. I hear that the iCandy Pear is about to come out which will have a rear-facing option, but it is based on the iCandy Apple chassis and i've heard that lots of people have had problems with them... Any words of wisdon and experience??

i love the new icandy pear adaptor etc- great idea as you get a single buggy at the same time do a google and see how it works it really is a marvel!

Also have a look at the first wheels twin- a side by side that can have loads of different combinations

NDPWantsANewCamera · 14/09/2007 13:03

I think the Jane twin can be rearfacing too

NDPWantsANewCamera · 14/09/2007 13:05

In fact, it looks like Jane have upped the ante with their twin range and now have a few choices of chassis etc

TheBlonde · 14/09/2007 14:05

First Wheels City Twin Pushchair can do the fwd/rear facing stuff
Mothercare have them

preggersagain · 14/09/2007 14:39

jane buggies can only be rear facing using a car seat or carrycot, seat unit can't be rear facing on them.

Have you got anywhere local that you can go and check out the icandy?

I am looking for the same thing.

So far the only one I have found is a model the Duette by Peg Perego and its £450.
You can take the seats off and move them to what position you like.

The only problem is that there is only one place in the whole country that sells them and its in Essex. They are called Classie Chassis.

claireybee · 14/09/2007 14:58

The only one i found was the first wheels city twin. But it is massive, doesnt fold very small and you have to take the seats off etc before folding I loved it until i saw it in the flesh and then realised there was no way we'd fit it all in the house let alone in car with 2 baby seats fitted!

TheBlonde · 14/09/2007 18:30

The sensible option is the phil & teds - the baby will be looking up at you while they are small

JoyS · 14/09/2007 20:07

The mountain buggy double is supposed to be really narrow and you can put a carry cot on one side for the baby. It's pretty pricey though.

Thank you so much for all the v helpful messages. (I'm new to Mumsnet and i had no idea I'd get such a quick response!) I will look into all the buggies you have recommended.

By the way Preggersagain, I have googled the iCandy pear and i agree it looks completely amazing. Unfortunately i've heard a few worrying rumours about the Apple and the Pear isn't available for a couple of months so nowhere to go and give it a once over.

we've never had a problem with Apples, it is the cherry that has had mega problems. The apple is heavy but then again- it needs to be! Some stockists have a pre-release version of the pear adaptor for you to look at, but beware we already have a waiting list for pears- if you are interested you need to find a stockist and get your name down, all of our first two deliveries have been reserved so we won't have any 'in stock' for three months after the release!

AgathaRose · 18/09/2007 11:56

Blimey! Ok Preggers, thanks. -I'll get on the case.

what's wrong with the cherry?

ernest · 30/10/2007 16:34

my sil had to return the cherry 3 times before she finally gave up and got a (completely rediculously expensive) alternative. One of the wheel kept coming loose. Baby is onls 3 months old.

nicm · 30/10/2007 18:02

can i add the emmaljunga. there's the cerox and another double one though not sure of the name of it. hth.

Larsy89 · 30/10/2007 21:15

I would add the Bebe Confort Twin Club. This amazing contraption I bought off ebay for just over £100 for my newborn and 20 month old. It's a tandem style pram and the seats can both face you, both face away from you or back to back or facing each other. When my toddler grows out of the pram I can remove one of the seats and it becomes a single pram with an integrated buggy board for my toddler to hop onto. The chassis also takes the Bebe Confort car seat in place of one of the seats or the Bebe Confort carrycot as well as one of the seats. I've tried all combos and my favourite at the mo is having the baby in the seat facing me, fully reclined so she's virtually flat and my toddler sat at the front of the pram facing outwards which she loves because she feels like the driver. When we get home from a walk if the baby is fast asleep I just unclip the seat unit and carry her into the house in the seat so I don't have to wake her.
Anyway apologies for the long message but I just love this pram!

nappyaddict · 31/10/2007 08:02

the reversible emmaljunga one is the twin city cross. i don't think the twin cerox is reversible.

nappyaddict · 31/10/2007 08:03

oh the cerox has a reversible handle, but it means the small wheels end up being the wrong way around.
