Oh no, we're at that age - Bl**dy toy adverts on kids TV

DD is eating her breakfast and watching Nick Jr as I write. And every advert that has come on for girls stuff, manily plastic tat with lots of small pieces, but in particular Barbie Paradise Island elephant and Swimming Baby Born she has been going "mum I want that" and "mum I want that too" and "mum I want everything I want" at that one though!

She is 4 in two weeks and I know that none of this will be in the shops in time as it is all new out, and as we are getting her a mike (much more sensible) and helmet and lock etc. We cant expect anyone else to pay the silly prices these will cost - not that I think she should get everything she wants. So I am now saying "Have to wait to see what Father Christmas brings then"

bloody adverts

We had Sky installed a couple of months back and DS learned that there was more to TV than Cbeebies lol.

However, I think as Cbeebies has no ads it feels like Nick Jr is full of them! He rarely asked for anything before but now "needs" a lot of things

Think I still prefer the toy ads to the loan ones though.

It's a nightmare isn't it. DS wants everything he sees too, even the girly things.

I've already had a ToysRUs catalogue in the post and was completely thrown to see Advent calendars for sale in Sainsbury's yesterday - for some reason I thought they were selling off last year's leftovers, until I realised actually it's September which of course means Christmas can only be seconds away.
And yes, I'm already fed up of the "I want that!" comments during advert time. We've had a long chat about money not actually growing on trees etc.

dd1 watches Milkshake and says at the end of every advert "I've got one of those in my new house" or "That's in storage for my new house"

We're moving next week, she'll be very disappointed to see that none of the toys have made it to the new house!

Lowfat - my dd1's birthday is next week too! Although she'll be 3.

PeachesMcLean · 15/09/2007 22:25

Ads are evil. DS is 6 and he's realised now he doesn't get everything he sees, and has to wait for birthdays. However, I do worry abouot the loan ones (attitude to money and all that) and odd moment last week - we've just got a dishwasher and had to buy tablets for the first time - DS stood there in the supermarket with a packet of Calgon saying "mummy, you really have to buy these ones, please can we have this?"

I think it's quite cute, dd catchphrase is can I have .... 'no' well can I have...'no'

repeat to fade.

It's the equivalent of when I was young, thumving throught my mums catalogue and wanting EVERYTHING!!!
