dd1+2 have plastic bottles with twisty sports caps, dd2 is a metal one with a pull up cap.

so aside from the pastic twisters, what others can people recommend.

all the bottles are sh*te in my experience

Have Sigg bottles for the dd's (bought in Germany, but available in UK), and they are okay, don't leak.

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:12

Sigg bottles don't leak. The only problem is cleaning them -I really have to scrub them and them sterilise them every now and again. Dh put milk into one fo the bottles and it went mouldy.

But apart from that I definitely recommend them.

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:12

sigg bottles are ususally available from travel and camping shops.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 07/09/2007 18:15

is the drinking cap hard to put down on them?? because thats where ours seem to leak if dd2 doesnt push it down far enough.

Only water goes in the Sigg bottles here

You can screw the top off and take it apart and put it in the dishwasher

emkana · 07/09/2007 18:16

You need to turn it, it's not difficult

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:18

my dd1 is three and a half and she can manage the top of the sigg bottle fine. Yes, they should just be for water.

I used one for travelling the world for a year.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 07/09/2007 18:20

so they turn to drink? not pull up?

ooo might have to have a look at those.

OP posts:
emkana · 07/09/2007 18:20

yes turn

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:20

the nozzle turns and there is a cap to push down.

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:21

even without the cap, turning the nozzle makes them water tight.

emkana · 07/09/2007 18:21

here

emkana · 07/09/2007 18:21

we always lose the caps

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:24

gosh they're about a thrid cheaper in Belgium.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 07/09/2007 18:25

they are a bit pricey

Another vote for Sigg.
Pricey but imo much better than plastic and keeps water cooler.
You can buy replacement lids too.

PandaG · 07/09/2007 18:26

yes Sigg are pricey, but we've had some for a least 3 years and they are still fine. Thay are nice to drink from too.

emkana · 07/09/2007 18:27

Some Sigg Hello Kitty ones on amazon for 11.99

Pricey, but they last and are good.

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:27

they are more expensive but we have spent far more on plastic bottles that leak, trying to find one that didn't leak or split.

wheresthehamster · 07/09/2007 18:29

Crikey. No wonder parents get upset when the bottles go missing! Can't believe those prices

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:31

I think the school should provide cups and tap water.

belgo · 07/09/2007 18:33

where's thehamster - yes they are pricey, but they are far better then plastic bottles. I would have saved a lot of money if I had bought a sigg bottle in the first place, rather then plastic ones.

It's not the initial cost that's so relevant as the cost per use.

wheresthehamster · 07/09/2007 19:04

Our school sell bottles at £1 each if you don't want to provide your own. They are clear plastic with a screw top lid. Poking out of the lid is a one way sucking spout. They can be turned upside down without leaking. I can recommend these as I am the person who has to mop up any spillage at school!

LVOC, I think we are in the same LEA so perhaps you could ask in your school?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 07/09/2007 20:58

are they red topped ones WMH? i may have to get one but dd2 is a lid chewer.

OP posts:
wheresthehamster · 07/09/2007 21:12

Aah yes, I don't know what would happen if the spout was chewed. Good point. Our lids are blue.
