I don't want a white or pink one if that's any help!

Sorry, this may well be the dullest thread I've ever started

but I will just say, this one has lasted about 2 yrs, that's all. The last two kettles have only lasted that long too, it's rubbish...back in the day ...things lasted etc etc

I need a new kettle too DANCES ... so I will lurk for any pearls of wisdom that may appear (if I may be so bold)

QueenofBleach · 07/09/2007 13:25

We have just bought well 2 months ago a Britta filter kettle, mainly because we live in a very hard water area and we were getting through a kettle a year.

DANCESwithTheMorningOff · 07/09/2007 18:02

Oh, that's a good idea. We live in a hard water area, maybe that's why our kettles keep expiring...

We have one of these and it's fantastic!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 07/09/2007 20:29

I have this one and love it;

www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HD4666-22-Gloss-Kettle/dp/B0006L2AHY/ref=cm_cr-mr-title/202-0668973-0703800

TheMaskedPoster · 09/09/2007 14:07

hmmm

we already have a morphy richards filter one and that does my head in - it is so big, bulky and pain in the rear end having to change the cartridge etc, blah, ad nauseum...

I really want a reliable one that has a duel temperature level (ie boiling and 90 degrees-ish for coffees and such)

is there such a thing? anywhere (besides my mum and dads kitchen in NZ?)

bran · 09/09/2007 14:12

I have been thinking of getting one of these from Tefal.

bran · 09/09/2007 14:14

Dances, I live in a hard water area and I use a little wire ball that collects the limescale from the water and prolongs the life of the kettle. I'll see if I can find it online.

bran · 09/09/2007 14:18

Here you go, scroll down to the Cadnit kettle fur collector.

Lilymaid · 09/09/2007 14:23

We live in an exceptionally hard water area and I have one of those wire fur collectors in the kettle - scrunch it out now and again to get rid of limescale. Descale kettle regularly and occasionally scrub it out in between (ours is plastic so the scale doesn't go hard on the sides). We also use a Brita filter/jug to filter all our water that goes in the kettle. Down side is that I have had the same kettle for around 17 years and would love to get one that was more up to date, but it won't give up!

Thanks for the replies.
Bran - I had a look at the tefal one on amazon and the review were pretty bad, shame because it looks great! I think I might go with the eco kettle, not that stylish but will give me a nice green glow

We've just bought this one. It's smart, stylish, very good pourer (crucial in a kettle) and basically does what it says on the tin. Reckon with regular de-scaling, it'll go the distance.

bran · 09/09/2007 16:22

TheMaskedPoster - I used to have a great kettle when in lived in Berlin that had two settings 85C and boiling. I wish I had brought it back with me. They were pretty common over there (in the shops that is, not many Germans own a kettle) so perhaps if you happen to be going to mainland Europe you could buy and use it with a converter plug.

Dances, I still think that Tefal thing might suit me as I drink mostly black coffee and green tea, both of which are better made with cooler than boiling water. I might wait a bit until other companies start bringing out improved version of the same thing though.

louweasel · 09/09/2007 22:09

MaskedPoster - the Morphy Richards 43673 2Perfection kettle has the dual temp thing - you can get it from Amazon. I bought it but sent it back because DH didn't like the plastic finish ...

louweasel · 09/09/2007 22:13

Oh, and StripeyKnickers I am tempted by the Phillips one you linked too - how noisy is it - our current kettle has everyone getting up and closing as many doors as possible to muffle the noise.

amidaiwish · 10/09/2007 10:35

i have this one here

£100 and it is trashed already!

it is quiet and very fast but hasn't coped with limescale at all. The lid thing keeps opening and the handle is wrecked. I wish i had the receipt as it isn't 2 years old... then again i bet limescale damage isn't covered on the warranty.

amidaiwish · 10/09/2007 10:39

anyone got a wall mounted one like this??? WOW

amidaiwish · 10/09/2007 10:39

grrr
here

bran · 10/09/2007 10:56

Oooh noooo Amidaiwish, that wall-mounted thing would remind me of an office kitchen.

That's a shame about your Siemens kettle, my current kettle is the earliest version of that one (so it must be about 9 years old) and still going strong. You could do a complete descale (white vinegar or lemon juice works well if you don't want to use chemicals) and then using one of the steel wire balls that I've linked to below. It really does seem to suck most of the limescale out of the water before it can attach to the kettle.

amidaiwish · 10/09/2007 11:24

the limescale in the kettle isn't the problem, i have one of those ball things by the way so must be keeping it at bay

it is the limescale around the lid / in the ridges of the handle which is pulling it apart. it is really wrecked... time for the bin i think before i get steam burns one of these days...

i like the wall mounted one, don't like the price though!

louweasel - the morphy richards one that you have said looks good to me ... I think I may give that a go!

thanks

Cammelia · 11/09/2007 12:46

Dances, I bought a chrome one from M & S a year or so ago, it works brilliantly and looks good and didn't cost the earth !

amidaiwish · 11/09/2007 18:45

anyone got any experience of this one from Magimix?
here?
