I had a go of this today in John Lewis, they only got it in yesterday and they didn't have a CLUE how to work it!

I liked it but found the seats quite small. What I plan to do is sell my Bugaboo and buy the Icandy Apple now and then you can buy the Pip kit which turns the Apple into the Pear! You can then put the larger Apple seat on for the bigger child. It works out slightly more expensive doing it this way but you do end up with the extra seat so I am thinking it will be a better investment in the long run.

luvaduck · 17/08/2008 00:45

i have an apple - i thought that you had to get two new seats - and the old apple seat wouldn't fit??

luvaduck - in John Lewis, I got them to take the Apple seat off the frame and try it on the "Pip" frame of the Pear (this is the frame you can buy to turn the Apple into the Pear) and it worked.

Thanks Kif, I am in the North West unfortunately!

luvaduck · 17/08/2008 13:16

thanks pgwith no3 (oh and good luck!)

pgwithnumber3 · 17/08/2008 20:37

Are you having another DC luvaduck and needing a double?

luvaduck · 17/08/2008 22:10

not yet!! but maybe TTC in a few months. but ds will have to start sleeping a bit better first..zzzz

pgwithnumber3 · 17/08/2008 22:20

Don't want to swap your Apple for a Bugaboo do you!?! Only joking but it might be worth putting on swaps to see if anyone wants to! How old is your DC?

luvaduck · 17/08/2008 22:59

he's almost a year
maybe???
will have a chat with dh if you're serious

however may be useful for dc2, planning about 2 and half gap

pgwithnumber3 · 17/08/2008 23:10

Have a word with DH, see what he thinks although you may be right about having another DC and needing it yourself. I have put an ad on swaps so will see what happens but to be honest, I could probably sell my Bugaboo on ebay and buy a brand new Icandy Apple with what I get for mine! Would be easy just to swap with someone though! I think most people who buy an Icandy like the Bugaboo as it is similar.

Hi,
i started this thread what seems like an age ago and saw that it has been resurrected.

My ds and dd are now 25 months and 11 months old. As for my icandy pear, i sold it as soon as i got the chance and got an ABC buggy with toddler seat attached. DS and DD are much happier with this. It is an unbelievably strong and durable pushchair as well as light and easy to manouvre. Maybe not as good looking as the pear, but definately one of my best baby purchases ever. Whenever myself or DH are out with the kids in the ABC buggy, we are always approached by curious parents, grandparents etc. One of the best things about it (if you haven't seen it) is that it gives the children two perspectives. Either DS or DD sit in the toddler seat chatting to mum , or up front watching the world (or our local high street) go by.

From my experience as a mum of two 'close in age' children. This is definately better then the pear in every way possible. Incidentally, i bought the ABC buggy with the older non-reclining toddler seat without the rain canopy. My toddler rarely sleeps in the pushchair now, and i bought him a cute rain poncho to wear whenever it rains. He much prefers this to a normal raincover and it covers the frame of the seat as well. And whenever he wants to jump out of the seat and walk he can keep the poncho on, and is protected from the rain.

All in all - you never really find the perfect twin/tandem pushchair, but the one that i now have definately suits my lifestyle as a non-driving somewhat chaotic mum.

chummymummy, thank you for your message. I have gone off the idea of the Pear as I can imagine having to take the 2 seats off, then the frame just to fold it will wear me down over time.

I am back on to getting a P&T, I do think with it being a single as well it will be the most practical option over time.

Do you have a link to the ABC?

chummymummy · 21/08/2008 14:34

glad to help.

The link is: www.abcbuggy.co.uk

This is the link to the UK site, there is also a more detailed New Zealand site (where this buggy is from). I think this is www.abcbuggy.nz

I had loads of queries about the buggy and contacted the New Zealand site direct and then the UK site for purchase. The people at both ends were very helpful.

good luck with the buggy hunt.

Thanks for that chummymummy. Can I ask why you didn't like the Icandy Pear? How much of a pain is it to dismantle/get in the car?

chummymummy · 21/08/2008 23:00

it was a while ago, but i think it was a bit of a pain because of all the bits and pieces that come with it. Carseat adaptors, Pip convertor thingy etc. You have to remeber to take everything with you and there is not really anywhere to store them on the buggy utself.

I remember having an issue with the raincovers. They were really tight and had to stretch around the whole seat. One was slightly smaller than the other, so you had keep them separate or label them to know which one goes where. My DS was approx 1yr and a half and found the seat and the raincover really uncomfortable. His head barely fit in the hood, and when this was folded back it was just as uncomfortable.

The pushchair itself is v heavy. A lot of the options require the heavier child to sit at the front, and this made it difficult to mount pavements and steer. it also felt as though there was a lot of pressure on the handle bar.

I also recall that the shopping basket became impossible to use or access once both kids are seated.

It was just a lot of these niggly things that made it difficult to use really.

If you're going to try it out, i suggest that you try it with raincovers, hoods etc, up and down pavements or kerbs and see how you get on.

Hello, I made the mistake of buying the ABC Buggy and at first I thought it was the one for me until I was approached by a well estgablished retailer in my town asking me where I purchased it from? He told me that he had done his research and that the ABC double does not pass the high British standard as it was not tested in the UK. He advised me to contact the company as a consumer I had the right to ask for a copy of the test certificate. After 4 requests I still have received nothing and now I want my money back as it is not fit for purpose. I now understand why It says on their web site that the Toddler Seat is only available in New Zealand!!!!

My neighbour has the iCandy Pear and she simply raves about it. I wanted something different from her and thats why I looked at the ABC Double. I have purchased the iCandy Pear as I thinks it's more important that my childrens safety comes first. Once bitten, Twice shy, I requested and received the test certificate from iCandy and I feel reassured as that the iCandy Pear is covered by the European & Bristish standards.

Regarding the iCandy Pear I am now a fan. I purchased it from John Lewis and I did ask the question about putting the Apple seat unit on to the Pear frame and was told no uncertain terms NO. They said they had advised people previous that it was possible but with the correct training they now know that this option has not been tested. The did say that all the new Pears and coming with bigger seat units and colour coded rain covers so not the blue fits on the blue frame and the yellow on the yellow- Simple!

It moves easily but I do agree that the shopping basket is restricted with both seat units on and that you need to take a couple of extra steps to fold it but I think its totally worth it when a) I can have both my children facing me b) I can have my baby in a carry cot c) I can use the Pear bigger seat unit directly on the chassis turning the Pear in to a single stroller unit.

I do also find it is easier to get up and down footpaths etc.. when the handle bar is further out as it gives you better leverage.

Overall, very happy and quite assured with my iCandy Pear. Saftey first in my option.

pgwithnumber3 · 24/08/2008 13:25

Thanks for that Birdy, appreciate your advice. To be honest, I wasn't thinking about the ABC, I was going to just get a Phil and Teds. I am unsure re the Pear as have also been told that the Apple seat is not safe on the Pear chassis. Did John Lewis let you know when Icandy were bringing out the larger seats?

mistyabale · 22/05/2009 09:48

i was wondering if anyone could tell me if the carry cot for the apple would fit on the pear.
I am guessing that it prob wont fit if you using the pear as a double. but if you using the pear as a single would it fit?
just want to know cos i think the apple carrycot looks more substantial then the pear.

What is the pear carrycot like to use?

thanks everyone xx

Suslik · 12/09/2009 23:00

Hi. How much are these iCandy things - neither of the websites in this thread have any indication of price! thanks

pippel · 13/09/2009 17:38

you have to ring and ask they are only allowed to be sold in approved places and the prices cant be put on websites to keep exclusivity or something like that!

twinkleicious · 17/09/2009 22:27

Hi, I am considering selling my icandy pear. I have twins and have loved it but am thinking of finally letting it go. Let me know if anyone is interested. It would come with 2x buggy seats, 2x carrycots, 2x (new) footmuffs (pink and blue), pip convertor, car seat adaptors etc. All in great condition.
