I love the ultra violet le creuset casserole but im not sure I can bring myself to spend £250 + on it. Are they really that good? Im trying to convince myself it's an investment!

Not a fan of the colour but if you look after it properly it will probably outlive you.

They can be EXTREMELY heavy when full though, go and handle one in a shop if you can to see if it's really practical for you.

Batshittery · 23/02/2020 21:48

I have some Le Creuset pans/cookware and think they are great. I have had my casserole pot for more than 20 years and it still looks like new.
Mind you, it was expensive at £50. I had no idea they are now £250 Shock

Cynderella · 06/03/2020 23:42

I love mine BUT ...

  • they need to be handled with care. I bought three used saucepans on Ebay in good condition. Two ruined by my adult kids. With care, they do look great for a long time.
  • as said, they are heavy; they're super heavy when full.

They are not the pans for you if you like to use metal spoons etc, and want teflon standard non-stick.

Chouxalacreme · 06/03/2020 23:47

If you have a partner that scrapes and bangs them and scrubs them when told not to it’s not worth the heartbreak or arguments
Also so so heavy not sure I can lift mine anymore

Walnutwhipster · 06/03/2020 23:48

I've had mine 25 years and it's all in fantastic condition. I have a set of pans, casseroles and a skillet. The pans are on a le creuset stand in my kitchen and love them being on display. Their weight is the only disadvantage. Keep your receipt they have a lifetime guarantee.

GlamGiraffe · 07/03/2020 00:00

I'm not keen on the colour at all personally.
I have a cream one in the local shape I was given as a wedding present and its lively. Casseroles etc do take ages to cook in it and its heavy, but our latest and best discovery is using it to cook simply the easiest and best "no knead" bread you can imagine. Leave all the ingredients in a bowl ocernight, essentially pour it in the dish with some greaseproof for an hour and a half to bake an fabulous bread every day. It's worth it for that!!

EL8888 · 07/03/2020 00:03

They last forever but as others have said they are super heavy

Time40 · 07/03/2020 00:05

I've got one and I don't use it - too damn heavy.

AdoraBell · 07/03/2020 00:10

I love mine. Had 2 of the casseroles bought in a outlet. Had those for about 15 years. Last year, also in an outlet, I bought a shallow lidded dish and then went a bit made with the cassis colour. Bought a few bits from a website called Brand Alley.

Medievalist · 07/03/2020 00:14

My le Creuset casserole dish is 30 years old and still going strong.

C8H10N4O2 · 07/03/2020 10:05

My adult DC have some of DM's Le Creuset and at least one of my casseroles was my DGM's and still going strong.

We have Le Creusets ranging in age from about 10yrs to 50yrs and still going strongg.

RhubarbBikini · 07/03/2020 17:10

Is 20% off. I had built up a collect of le creuset over the years, but I only buy when john lewis etc have a 20% off promotion (which seems to happen quite frequently)

organicapricot · 08/03/2020 18:51

I bit the bullet and I love it! Got it at an outlet store so was a bit cheaper. Thanks all for your replies. To many happy years of casseroling Grin

Oh love the colour. Gorgeous!

Cynderella · 10/03/2020 23:52

I also love that colour! I have two casseroles like that - both replaced by LeCreuset for free after twenty years of use. My saucepans were second hand, so not covered - one reason to but new.
