Baby respiratory monitors

Does anyone know if it is possible to hire these monitors that you place under a cot matress and an alarm sounds if the baby's breathing slows down or stops?

My sister is soon to bring home her premature baby from hospital and he uses one of these monitors in hospital because he does sometimes need to be reminded to breath! I have found places to purchase them, but cannot find anywhere that hires them.

Thanks v much

She hadn't been given any info re using one at home. But she is going to ask when she goes back in this afternoon. I'm just doing a panic search for her in case the hospital say no. She was only told yesterday that he may come out on Tuesday so it hadn't really been thought of before.

Thanks ever so much for the offer, what make is your one and i will let her know. Oh and whereabouts are you?

We had one for DS when he came home we hired it from a company if you want I can try to find the details. It was an apnoea alarm.

He was very prem too. It was a belt that fitted with velcro and it bleeped each time he breathed and then alaramed if he stopped or it wasn't fitted properly.

The belts came in different sizes and as he grew he went upa size he used it for nearly a year.

Have just had a thought why not contact the cot death assoication they may have details or SANDS.

We were lent one by the hospital. I think they cost hundreds of pounds to buy.Baby has a sensor attached to his abdomen and the wire plugs into the monitor. It sounds an alarm if he stops breathing for more than 20 secs. You have to be trained in what to do if it goes off i.e.how to resusitate baby if necessary.
