Mattress Topper

Does anyone have a mattress topper on their bed? Just seen them in white company catalogue and they look sooooo nice! They are expensive though, so wondered if they were worth it?

We've got one of those duvets that come in 2 parts, ie one for summer (4.5 tog) and one for autumn (9 tog) and in winter you velcro them together for a super-warm one - I use the one I'm not using on top, underneath, if you see what I mean. At the mo the autumn one is under the bottom sheet acting as a mattress topper. It's very comfortable and we don't find we need the 2 together in winter, just the heavier one on top and the light one underneath - it's very snug. And it's a lot cheaper to buy a spare lightweight duvet for under the botttom sheet than buy a mattress topper.

Do you mean a memory foam one?

Got ours when I bought the new matress at IKEA. I'm verfy happy with the complete combo but I do like Lorca's idea too

oooggs · 01/09/2007 19:24

great idea Lorca - saves on storage

we got one a few months ago from argos. We love it. Our bed is so very comfy now .

We were given a feather one for Christmas from PILs last year but it was crap and DH kept complaining about the feathers coming through and being uncomfortable. So we've just splashed out on a memory foam one from John Lewis and it's definitely worth it (even if it's so I don't have DH moaning any more!).

JillyE · 01/09/2007 21:49

yes, i had seen the feather and duck down one from white company - but sounds like they are no good!
Are the memory foam toppers better?
You are talking me into this now!

Well, the one PILs (well MIL) got for us was from QVC or some other shopping channel so couldn't guarantee the quality! White Co may well be much better. But I think that the memory foam ones are not much more expensive

boo64 · 01/09/2007 22:06

We have the White Company one on our spare bed and it is fab!! I almost want to move rooms it is so good.

The mattress up there is cr*p and really springy and uncomfy but the topper solved everything - it is amazing and was worth every penny. I think it cost about £90 with a 15% discount voucher

JillyE · 01/09/2007 22:07

Fantastic boo - is it the duck and feather one that you've got from white co?

boo64 · 01/09/2007 22:10

Yes - it is heavenly!! I love it.

And all my guests rave about it. It does make the mattress quite high as the topper is quite thick but it's never been a problem really.

Whooosh · 01/09/2007 22:15

The feathery ones are great as long as you shake them prior to every use (easy on a spare bed) the memory foam topper which we have on our main bed is great but very warm in warm eather (not really been a problem this Summer ).

JillyE · 01/09/2007 22:25

shake them before every use? really - that sounds like a lot of hassle as its for our bed.

we have one on our ikea bed
Excellent

Pollyanna · 01/09/2007 22:28

jillyE I saw them in that catalogue today - the furry one is very tempting (although not the price iirc )

boo64 · 01/09/2007 22:28

I have slept on our guest bed and I didn't need to shake it out but I did sort of rearrange it a bit after i suppose.

JillyE · 02/09/2007 13:57

they do look gorgeous, I am now just torn between the feather one or the memory foam one - what d'ya think?
