DS is 4 next week and I cant decide what to get him - he is interested in power rangers but dont like to indulge that too much!!

Is this a good age to start lego and playmobil etc?

lego, lego, and more lego ... ds loves his.

We bought him this for his 4th birthday, and he loves it!

(more to the point, so does dh! Keeps them both quiet for hours!)

DS had his first Lego 'kit' (a helicopter) for his 4th birthday and never looked back. We now have piles of the stuff! He loves the kits - likes having instructions to follow and knowing what he is getting at the end of it, iyswim - but is not bothered at all by his big bucket of bricks so have a look at both. The City lego has proved really popular.

He also loves his Playmobil knights, by the way - both make great presents.

DS1 is 4 on Wednesday next week.

Have bought the Go Diego Go Treehouse/Rescue Centre with quadbike, helicopter and various animals.

I found it difficult to choose something. Most toys are either too young or too old.

The lego idea is good - we are still on duplo atm.

I got ds a marble run from Quercetti (masses of stuff on that page) for his fourth, & it's still being played with four years later - it's something that grows with you.

Playmobil, playmobil and more playmobil - it's a great investment (not that I am obsessed or anything!) DS wrote his 4th Birthday list (and Christmas list, and is now working on 5th Birthday list) entirely from the Playmobil catalogue.

My suggestion would be to pick a theme with DS (Police, Knights, Farm, whatever) and then let everyone know - the nice thing about Playmobil is that there are things ranging from £2 to £100 so however much someone is planning to spend on him they should be able to find something worthwhile without feeling pressured to spend more - most of DS's has come as small presents from relations, and I would far rather they spent £5 on a small Playmobil set than £10 on some plastic rubbish which ends up broken and forgotten within a week or so.

aww pecka, I was just aboutto post that my ds3 will be 4 soon and then saw the OP was from you, of course you know ds3 will be 4 soon...we were on the due in sept 2003 thread together!!

Isn't it nice that we're both still here after all thses years

stealthsquiggle · 31/08/2007 14:09

We have one of those marble runs too Bink - they are v. cool.

And one of DS's Godparents bought him a basic gears set (on the page Bink linked to) for his 3rd birthday and has since got him "extension" sets for subsequent birthdays/christmas - although they don't get played with all that often TBH.

Hmm - beginning to realise that DS has far far too many toys - and a birthday coming up!

LTH Those were the days ahhhhhhhhhhhh I have to remind myself of those waiting days to keep my patience this time around - 16 weeks and counting!

How are the gorgeous LTH boys? You must be the worlds expert on what little boys want for their birthdays! What you getting DS3 for his?

Marble run sounds like a good a good idea!

Tha lego box is in my shopping basket at boots.com (3for2 on toys)

I like the idea of playmobil but just dont know where to start.

He is really into the VTECH console at the moment, considering getting him the pocket version of that.
