Portable air conditioning unit - any Jan sales?

Hello!

Every summer, my husband and I decide we want to buy a portable air conditioning unit but inevitably decide they're too expensive (usually the prices get whacked up during heat waves which is when we think about buying one) so we decide to wait until winter and buy one in advance of next summer. Well, we always forget, then regret it the following summer!

We have a 15 month old son and are expecting another baby in July. The upstairs bedrooms go above 30 degrees in the summer during heat waves (including at night) and it's just horrible. That's obviously despite all our efforts with fans etc. We really want to get an air conditioning unit before the new baby arrives, and to be honest I dread the thought of being heavily pregnant during heat waves again (I slept out in the garden in desperation one night last time round as I couldn't bear the stuffy bedroom) so I guess getting one before May would be ideal.

However, I've just had a look and I a) can't tell if there are any good deals and b) am not sure which to get. I've checked out 'which' and some reviews but I expected that Amazon at least would have some at a discounted price? We're looking to.spend probably around £300 based on our research - enough for a reasonably small to medium sized room.

I don't suppose anybody has spotted a good deal on a portable air conditioning unit recently that they can recommend?

Or has anyone had any success with eBay? I usually love buying things second hand but am wary when it comes to technology... how can I know if it's in decent working condition?

Thanks in advance!

This probably wont help but like you our upstairs gets horribly hot. So I looked around for a air con unit and found it all a bit of a minefield and they all seemed the same. However we tried to get one in a heatwave so had little choice and got one in b&q. Cost about £300 and has a pipe which goes out the window.

However was the best purchase we made. I would sit in the nursery until I had to go to bed.
It has fan mode and aircon mode. And can be put on a timer. It Is very noisy though but luckily my dd would sleep through it.

Not sure I would invest in a 2nd but dont regret paying out for this one

Really? That sounds amazing. That is helpful actually as it confirms it's a good decision. May I ask what brand and spec you have? Thanks so much!
