What is the "male" equivalent to a toy pushchair

My dfil is horrified that my ds (third child) LOVES pushing my daughters's pink dolly pushchairs around. Personally I don't really give a BUT he's offered to buy him something else. This is amazing and should be jumped upon immediately! So any ideas?

if my dfil behavedlike this demanding an alternative to a pushcair I'd get a HOOVER.

muppetgirl · 30/08/2007 22:11

I don't understand why you would want him to have something else??
He likes it
You don't mind

...what's the problem?

Men push pushchairs....

KristinaM · 30/08/2007 22:15

my two boys push toy buggies with dolls, teddies and cars in them. they also like a wheelbarrow and a push along toy which is thomas the bl**dy tank engine

gess · 30/08/2007 22:17

ds3 has a wagon and a pink pushchair. He plays with the pink pushchair all the time, ignores the wagon.

lemonaid · 30/08/2007 22:22

A blue pushchair, if the pink offends his delicate sensibilities so badly. Men push pushchairs too. It would be nice for im to have his own so you don't get ructions over your DDs' pushchairs.

Or, in the spirit of getting something out of FIL, a genuine (full-sized) Porsche? A twelve-bedroom mansion?

LazyLinePainterJane · 30/08/2007 22:22

I agree with morning paper. I would be inclined to buy a fairy costume with wings and wand

elasticbandstand · 30/08/2007 22:24

a Lawnmower?
ok ok, it is fine in the house!

DrNortherner · 30/08/2007 22:25

As a toddler my ds used to loving pushing pushchairs at play group so much I bought him one. It was navy blue with red handles and one of his most used toys. He loved it.

frazzledbutcalm · 30/08/2007 22:26

Wills - it wouldnt matter what fil buys, ds wil only want a pushchair!! He'll toss new toy aside and that will prob make fil even wors! Both my ds have pushchairs and they love them. ds2 pushes teddys around in it sometimes, but very often his tool kit goes in there!!

KristinaM · 30/08/2007 22:45

my Dh pushes a buggy as well and i dont think its affected him adversely in any way . mind you its not pink

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 30/08/2007 23:03

ds loves his ELC buggy - whenever we go there he tries to walk out the shop with the display ones& since I'm expecting a little brother for him in a few months I will definitely encourage his interest in buggy pushing as I'd rather he were pushing in one than riding in it - I expect he will graduate to a lawnmower/vacuum cleaner in due course.

plus he spends all day with me so is very interested in all chore related toys (and computers due to my mumsnet obsession)- surely an ability to pull your weight with the domestic stuff is one of the most attractive qualities a man can have- god save us from breeding incapable men.

madamez · 30/08/2007 23:14

My DS also loved the pushchairs at playgroup so I got him the ELC blue one with blueclad baby to push in it. Much to my father's horror. However, DS loves the pushchair and plays with it a lot, so yah boo sucks to anyone who objects. Perhaps your FIL could buy your DS the blue pushchair simply so he has his own one to play with.

boo64 · 31/08/2007 21:28

Oh just tell FIL that ds is merely copying his daddy who used to push/ pushes his pushchair. If ds is a bit of a woos in FIL's eyes then so will his son be!

For goodness sake, men push pushchairs, it's so silly that FIL is getting so bothered by it isn't it

harpsichordcarrier · 31/08/2007 21:32

oh yes, men don't push pushchairs do they now
how flipping weird

southeastastra · 31/08/2007 21:32

like wheresthehamster i think a toy wheelbarrow may be a compromise. my son loved pushing a toy buggy around. tbh i don't think he'd have wanted to push anything else at the time.

the stage doesn't last long, but a nice wooden wheelbarrow would be used for years.

startouchedtrinity · 31/08/2007 21:38

Tbh I'd tell fil to butt out. Or smile politely but ignore. If you allow him this bit of interference he will do so every time ds doesn't match up to his ancient idea of what makes a man. My cousin's ds has long hair like his dad and his grandad is always on at him to 'be a man' and get it cut, rather than building him up for having the confidence to be himself.

And if the boys I've seen are anything to go by he's charging around with it like a nutter anyway.

My dds do have a very fab and funky navy three wheeler toy buggy that cost a mint, so you could sting fil for one of those. But in the long run it could be more trouble than it's worth.

purpleduck · 31/08/2007 22:02

oooh get him one of those offensive toy iron/ironing board thingys
