Toyota UrbanCruiser vs. Honda CR-V?

Evening all,
Any experience with these two cars appreciated -
Toyota UrbanCruiser or Honda CR-V

My current car is on its last legs, and I ideally want to replace it with a small 4x4, as we live in a hilly area that's a nightmare in icy/snowy conditions.

It'll be mainly used for school runs, with a few 2hr-each-way motorway journeys.
Budget is £2500-4000 depending on age/mileage, which seems doable.

Thanks! BrewCake

CRV all day long.

Far bigger and more practical. NOt sure UrbanCruiser is even a 4x4.

But seriously, if you pick something other than the CRV, you need help.

Some UrbanCruisers are four-wheel drive, they will have AWD in the model name. 4x4 ones will all be diesel, I think. The petrol ones all seem to be front-wheel drive only.

The Honda is a much bigger car, and will probably feel more refined on the motorway. Toyota's equivalent would be the RAV-4. The UrbanCruiser is a supermini-sized thing, barely bigger than a Fiesta.

Suzuki Grand Vitara might also be worth considering.

Whatever you get, I would say having the right tyres on it matters more than the driven wheels (i.e. whether it's four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive). If you regularly get snow, ice and heavy rain you might be better off on all-season tyres.

One of my SsIL drives a very old Skoda Octavia. It's not four-wheel drive, but she gets around in the wet, the ice and the snow perfectly well, because she's got the right tyres on it. (They're in rural Cumbria.)

I have an 04 plate CRV ( I paid £1500 for it 3 years ago) and it is brilliant. Drives beautifully even in snow, very practical, and even at its age all it has had done is brakes and a new alternator.

All interesting, thanks!
We were originally dithering between the CR-V and a VW Tiguan I think, but I didn't want to drive a tank as school parking is a nightmare as it is.
The CR-V is also appealing because my current car is a Honda and they're very reliable.

Tiguans, like all VW's, are shit.

Stick with Honda's, especially by your own admission you know that its reliable.

You'll be glad that you did :)
