Who did you buy your fitted kitchen from? (and were they any good?)

I am looking to buy a new kitchen and have the same company install it - all new appliances as well.

So far I've been to MFI and B&Q but need opinions on prices, quality and any problems

Plan to do Ikea next week

Any horror stories / success stories would be very welcome

TIA!

We've got an Ikea kitchen . We fitted it ourselves so can't comment on that side of the service, but the kitchen itself is great.

It was cheap, and we felt, better quality than many of the other DIY type places.

A second vote for their wooden worktops too - we bought the oak one for less than half the price of any we could find elsewhere and 2 1/2 years later, it looks great.

Enjoy! - I LOVED choosing my new kitchen

We were on a budget so got our kitchen from Magnet and got our builder to fit it. The kitchen is now eight years old and in perfect condition - no problems with drawers, doors or worktops. Would highly recommend a Magnet kitchen but no idea about their fitters.

Thanks

MadMazza - did you hve to have a sales rep around? We got a Magnet catalogue today...but they forgot to put the pricelist in

Bought the units from MFI, no problems. Kitchen design bloke was OK, not fantastic, but we knew what we wanted by then so it didn't really matter. Fitted it ourselves.
Also got plans from a couple of more expensive companies to see if the posh designers came up with any clever ideas
Other bits and bobs like worktops, sink, appliances we bought online from various suppliers as range and price were better than at MFI. Makes the kitchen look a bit more individual.

As far as I remember we chose the style of kitchen we liked in the showroom, then someone came around and drew up a plan of what units would go where, sink, oven, fridge/freezer etc (with our input). Then we got a copy of the plan from them with the cost of the units alone (and they gave us a deal on the fridge/freezer which is built in.) There was no "hard sell" and they didn't seem bothered whether we used their fitters or not - they were happy for us to buy the units and fit them ourselves. I don't know if all companies work like that, do they? We used the showroom in Romford, Essex bu the way.

We had a B&Q kitchen fitted last year, kitchen is very good although their admin nearly caused me a nervous breakdown. They come to your house design you a kitchen, no hard sell. They then leave it in the hands of head office which is a bad idea, they just don't seem to be able to cope with the volume. saying that, fitter was very good and 12 months on - It's great.

We had a Magnet kitchen, but installed by a family builder (dh's cousin). It was lovely to work in and look at and I miss it! My parents also had Magnet units, very nice. Both kitchens installed about eight years ago and still looking very smart.

Sorry to hijack your thread Charlie999, but I was wondering if anyone has had a John Lewis or a KDCUK kitchen fitted? I would avoid Moben because I personally found their sales techniques a bit high pressure.

Had a 139 piece kitchen order (inc all plinths, draws bits and bobs) delivered by IKEA this morning. Absolutely everything was on the lorry and it arrived right in the middle of the delivery window. Really pleased so far but I was able to put a lot of time in to planning and visiting the store several times to tweak the plan, usually first thing in the morning when it was quiet. If I hadn't been 'time rich' I don't think it would have worked.

Installation will be delayed though. As me and my friend were sorting through the Ikea order, the builders found our floor joists were rotten and will need replacing.

Good luck!

I've just had a new kitchen fitted, - what I did was go to all the kitchen shops I could find (not moben/kitchen direct) and get their brochures. They don't normally have measurements in for the cabinets but you can see what sort of style you like. They come and measure and give some ideas, which Ikea won't. I had my own fitter, and I think it saved me money in the end cos he did everything, electric, plumbing tiling worktops etc. I eventually chose Schmidt, which I found on the interent.

OUr magnet fitter was brilliant. Really good job.
We did have builders in at the same time, and pondered whether to get the builders to do it. But we're gald we opted for the magnet fitter because of the (previously stated) probs with damaged deliveries. The fitter was able to liase very effectively with Magnet to sort things out. Talking to the builder, he said that if he fits kitchens for people he recommends that they pay him the cost of the kitchen on top of the cost for fitting, and then he orders the kitchen in his name so that he is the customer and is able to chase things up without having to get you (the real customer) to be the first poit of contact with the company.

We had a KDCUK German kitchen installed and found the product, price and service to be fantastic
