Has anyone successfully got rid of spiders ?

We live in the country and for as far as I remember we have always had spiders clogging up the windows. And I'm not talking one or two - this is serious webs and huge big buggers, I'm looking for a product I can spray etc, and will start with the hardware stores this morning. Any advice/suggestions please?

The only thing I can suggest is get a CAT! They love spiders and eat them all up! - fun for the cat and gets rid of the problem for you.

Of course it does leave you with a cat, but thats just a bonus!

I think the cats beside us are lazy - or maybe thats why my neighbour has clean windows

apparently spiders detest the smell of fur cones and wont build webs near them, I plan to collect loads in the autumn and have them in a huge bowl in the outside toilets, so we can use it in the summer, not sure if it works though.

I thought it was conkers they hate the smell of, totaleclipse.

Oh yes, I remember now you say

CONKERS CONKERS!!!

OMG!!! I just happen to have a huge conker tree at the end of the lane - not mine per se but, anyway, so I should just put a bunch of them on my window sills? or do they need to be smashed a bit? Not sure what dh will think of my window decorations but if it rids me of the little buggers I don't care.

Ooh, just seen this.

I have successfully got rid of spiders.

Get a Vapona solid fly killer and stick it behind sofas/back of fireplaces/under bed etc, anywhere spiders go and toddlers don't.

I used to have tarantulas legging it about my place till I started doing this a year or two ago. Now - nada. And I live in a 100 year old house, with lots of cracks and hidey-holes for the little buggers to live in. I still see the occasional tiny weeny one, but the big bastards have fecked off.

Fly spray will kill spiders if you dare get close enough, but not the best thing to be spritzing around, obv. The solid stuff isn't the most environmentally friendly thing to use, but it has made my home environment a much happier place.

I might try the conkers too, now I know about them.

I'll give the vapona a go then too. I have nothing against spiders really its just I can't be bothered with the mess - the webs, the dead flys and the dots of black goo... Bleurgh!!!! I will have to convince dh to get up a ladder tomorrow to get the windows upstairs cleaned first
I'd love to have a nosy around your house WT, has it been in your family or did you buy it? I have an interest in history, be it houses, art or just geneology.
