i've got a really sore and flaky scalp at the moment, i am prone to this when a bit tired and/or stressed and it is absolutely awful the moment.

can anyone recommend anything? i've tried head & shoulders (too harsh) and even splashed out on some kerastase stuff, that's no good either.

aaaaaaaaagh

Try neutrogena t gel. It smells a bit but one of my sisters found it really worked for her.

I wasa going to recommend the Neutrogena T-Gel too - smells of coal tar, but I quite like that.

T gel do a sensitive version which smells much better and works for me.

Scootergrrrl · 28/08/2007 15:15

Lush used to do a fabulous bar called Snake Oil which my friend who had psoriasis on her scalp swore by.

FussyGalore · 28/08/2007 15:15

my dsis and dcous both use oilatum shampoo. say tis only one they get on with.

Furball · 28/08/2007 15:19

try to find one without sulfer lauryl sulfate in (bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack) head for organic range preferalbly health shop and read the ingredients. It's in most things as makes a lather but is really harsh and drying on skin especially sensitive skins.

Meeely2 · 28/08/2007 15:44

my mum was prescribed polytar

meandmy · 28/08/2007 15:46

I use polytar it stinks but t does work!
also i found that timotei does ok job when my scalp isnt too bad,
sleep and relaxing too!

I once saw a tip somewhere to rinse hair in apple cider vinegar, never tried it. Did try Boots Specialist Anti Dandruff shampoo, which works really well, it is really hard to get hold of and I think is called something slightly different now.

Massage coconut oil in, wrap in cling film and leave on over night.

ChorusLine · 28/08/2007 20:20

Any type of oil you have in....I suffer from Psoriasis and have rubbed Olive Oil in before now when waiting for prescriptions

ChorusLine · 28/08/2007 20:21

Also sleeping in a plastic shower cap....

Nizoral Shampoo

pyjamaqueen · 28/08/2007 21:43

The only thing that has ever worked for me is Redken 'Solve' shampoo - and they've just stopped making it!! I'm heartbroken.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 28/08/2007 21:45

I vote for Nizoral

Really it works

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 28/08/2007 21:46

T Gel is fab - I've used it for the last 10 years or so. One thing I've found really good is Almond oil - rub into scalp before going to bed and wash off in the morning.

Another thing - do you have a power shower? If I stay in a hotel with a really strong shower, it really sets off my scalp - just a thought for you

expatinscotland · 28/08/2007 21:49

I am allergic to sodium laryl sulfates. They cause my scalp to itch and flake.

Have you tried an SLS free shampoo?

My dad used to have horrible 'dandruff' too, but really, it was an SLS allergy.

DD1 has it, too, only she gets an awful rash on her skin and scalp from them.

I use a shampoo by Jason that I get in Napiers the Chemist, but Neal's Yard do them as well.

Furball · 29/08/2007 07:33

expat - I'm a JASON convert and use most things of theirs, lovely stuff.
