Thinking of geting one for DD1 who is 4 for Christmas. She isnt actually in to computer games so have never her bought her anything like this before. However we visited a friend who had one and she was glued to it. Are they worth the money and are they any good? Not so keen to spend loads on something she may get bored of quickly.

hi

i think they are very hit or miss, my dd (nearly 5)doesn't play with hers at all. Actually thinking of selling it to be honest.

We have the vsmile pocket which suited DS better than the normal one - it comes with a tv cable so you can still use it that way. Its fab for the car and long journeys and he's been able to play it himself since aged 3 and he's 4.5 now.

Its worth looking at boots as its part of their 3 for 2 but check out Amazon as they tend to reduce it every now and then. The games are on offer at the moment direct from Vtech themselves for £4.99 and no postage so well worth getting and saving.

If the pocket version plugs into telly I would be tempted by that as it is more versatile and I believe the games are compatible.

DTDs have had it since about 3 - and they really enjoy it. The biggest drawback is us making the time to get it out.

DTDs have had teh console version that is.

Thanks guys. Am tempted to go with pocket version (for taking up less space if nothing else!). Thanks for advice on where to look. Have only looked in argos and was shocked at expense of it all.

My DS begged me for one of these last Christmas after playing on his friends. He was 7 at the time, so I felt he was maybe a bit old, but then saw that the games were suitable for children up to 9 years old, so bought it.

He played with it quite a bit at first, but the novelty very soon wore off, and now he very rarely bothers with it. His 4 year old brother doesn't seem that bothered either, and much prefers his Leapster.

Like Katz says, I feel they are very hit or miss. However, the pocket version may be a lot better.

We bought ours from Woolworths
