Is a m&p buggy worth the extra money or is a normal buggy just as good?

Thanks

I have a Mammas & Pappas pliko & a Maclaren.
I would say that the m&p pushchair is more comfi but I tend 2 use the Maclaren more 4 shopping etc, as it is far easier 2 fold & lighter than my M&P buggy.

the m&p is better for a younger child i personally think as there alot more padded than the maclaren.

We bought a Pliko for dd when she was about 8 months and ended up taking it back because it was faulty. The shop replaced it with a Maclaren Techno which I think is very good although not as padded. We got round this by using a lambskin buggy liner to pad it out. I think whatever you buy you should test them out a bit in the shop as I personally found that the Maclaren is easier to fold and slightly lighter. HTH

personally, I'd rather have the Pilko. Had that first, albeit a secondhand one, and had it replaced with a Techno when the airline damaged it and I dont like the Techno as much.

kbaby, will you be taking your buggy on the bus with the baby in? Because the slightly narrower profile of the Maclaren makes all the difference on most of the London buses I use. The Pliko (and many other "sturdier" pushchairs) has to be loaded at the back door and some miserabilist bus drivers are uncooperative about this.
Bagpuss30's recommendation of a lambskin is perfect (I got the tip from another Mumsnetter, hello there serenequeen). It does make the ride more comfy for a newborn.

We started off with a techno XT (Maclaran) but while I like it's lightness, I hate the fact that dd always seemed so slumped in it, so ended up buying a pliko on ebay. Love the fact that now she sits up and holds onto the bar when we go for walks, and it seems so much more comfy. Cant say the weight difference has made a huge impact, although my mother, who takes dd on buses more often than me, tends to take the maclaran. My advice would be to buy the pliko, then when and if you take your baby on public transport/holiday, buy a really cheap buggy for those trips alone. Try nearly new (NCT) sales and ebay - you might find just what you're looking for at a bargain price.

Thanks everyone. I prefer the pilko because of the padding and it looks so much more comfier but the prices new are quite dear. Ive looked on EBay and they sell for about 130.00 which I'm not sure if its a good price for a 2nd hand buggy.

you can get them much cheaper from Germany - I got one via ebay from which cost a lot less than it does over here, even including shipping. here is the one I bought, they also have the ones without raincover and footmuff for 199 euros. Have a look at the seller's other items - M & P is called Peg Perego on the continent. I ordered mine on a Monday and received it on Thursday.

muminlondon · 05/10/2004 13:14

I have both too. The M&P was invaluable in the first year from birth because of the good suspension, yet it's quite nippy around the shops (better than some of the heavy duty buggies). We keep the Maclaren (cheapest line) in the car for trips and I use it on public transport.
