I have an ergo, a friend has the patapum, not much difference that we can see except patapum cheaper and better for smaller waists. The ergo only just fits me and I'm size 16 (although admittedly post-baby tummy).
I don't mind the ergo, but I kinda wished I'd tried out a mei tei (esp the Eden baby carrier) as I find the straps dig in quite a lot although otherwise it's quite comfortable. Best thing is to try 2 types (say from bigmamasling or littlepossums or homegrownbaby who do the eden). I think it's worth the money to do so, rather than get something you feel you have to use cos you've paid for it!

I've heard the ergo suits bigger people and both mae and Dh are quite small so wasn't sure about that one.
I know the bigmama website so maybe I will hire a couple.
Thanks

i've definitely come across that idea (that ergo for bigger people) on mumsnet - my friend is quite petite and the patapum seems to suit her. I can also really recommend the service at homegrownbaby, they are absolutely fab! But bigmumma prob. has more choice (tho they're quite expensive for renting as the postal charges add up).
