Baby Annabel vs Baby Millie from ELC

Dd1 has decided she would really like a Baby Annabel for her birthday. I've seen the Baby Millie in ELC wihich is about a fiver cheaper but at the moment is coming with a free crib worth £25. Dd1 has looked at both and still wants BA because she cries real tears and turns her head apparently . Is it really worth trying to persuade her to have BM or shall I just give in and go for BA. Somebody tell me just how fab BA is and how much their dc loves her and I will by swayed!

Middle Blast adores her baby Annabel.

I bought her a cheapy alternative, which she loved, but still wanted an Annabel. So in the end I got her one.

She's been carting it round for nearly 2 years now. (She's just turned 6)
I've not got her all the "stuff" that goes with it. She has a £3 pram from wilkinsons, and her own drawer of old baby clothes.

Woolworths is doing the baby anabelle doll for £17.49. here is the link

www.woolworths.co.uk/web/jsp/product/index.jsp?pid=50283217

it may be last years model though ??

dd loves her baby annabell, takes her everywhere, she got it for xmas so the head doesnt move, she also has baby born but prefers baby annabell, theres lots more accerories for baby annabell too!

Moomin · 28/08/2007 18:16

THanks maple - I didn't see that Woolies were doing them at that price. I went to ToyRUs today and bought one for £19.99 and it came with a change of clothes, bottle, dummy, and all that caper so I'm fairly pleased with that.

So clayre doll expert why does your daughter prefered Annabel, have narrowed it down to to Born or Annabel but can't see the difference between the 2???? I'm wondering if the head turning thing will be a tad spooky.

nightowl · 28/08/2007 19:37

we have a baby annabel and i was a bit disappointed with her. she cries (but it takes a lot or water). the head doesnt move. Its maybe better, as someone else bought dd a cheaper version which actually bawls its head off! annabel sort of gurgles gently and doesn't irritate granny (ie me) too much . the clothes and accessories are expensive so i just bought cheaper versions in the right size for the doll. she's ok, but there's not much to set her apart from all the other crying babies.

tassisssss · 28/08/2007 19:39

my mum's just bouhgt dd the millie from elc for her first b'day (probably far too young for such a doll, but never mind)

we reckoned the ELC offer with lovely free crib was too good to miss

MilaMae · 28/08/2007 19:50

Back to square one now. We have a cot so open to any but what do they all do exactly????

Does Millie cry tears, can you feed her water???

Does Born do any crying other than just squeak???

So Annabel's head doesn't really turn hmmmm. Does she stop crying when you feed her???

Born's clothes look a bit more interesting but not liking the huge hideous pony and carriage thing, remote car at all.

We only have room at the inn for one, help which is best?????

Moomin · 28/08/2007 20:44

Well....

Baby Millie makes a crying sound but she doesn't Cry Real Tears (dd1's specific requirement). She sucks her bottle but doesn't drink the water/milk. She does however come with the free crib (worth £25 and very nice- we have the pink version from a few years ago)

Baby Annabel does cry, and it says on the pack that she does turn her head (we'll see...!) and she makes a noise (crying/gurgling/whatever). Her accessories are fairly pricey, IMO but almost all cheapo accessories for other babies will be absolutely fine. On the Woolies website they are doing really cheap 'bundles' of accessories (travel cot, bouncy chair, buggy/pram, etc) for between £10 and £20. We're going for the Mamas and Papas one which is about £15 I think.

Baby Born - Gawd only knows what it does but I saw a pic on the ToysRUs website showing it sitting at a desk at SCHOOL, fgs! and another pic of it on the beach doing summat or other. So just on the grounds of ridiculousness, I would dismiss this one.

How about getting her this doll

Moomin · 28/08/2007 20:51

That's just so disturbing on so many levels

Am I being really out of order to imagine that the only buyers of dolls like this are childless middle aged women who keep stuffed toys on their beds and don't have the balls to steal a real child???

OP posts:
Milliways · 28/08/2007 20:52

Yep, agree with you there!

MilaMae · 28/08/2007 20:55

LOL!!!! Looks far too well behaved for my little girl. She'd be pinching it to wake it up.

MilaMae · 28/08/2007 20:57

So Moomin was your £19 one from Toys R Us the new head turning one-bargain if it was?

Moomin · 28/08/2007 21:21

God, don't know! She's in the boot of the car at the moment to stop dd1 snooping for her. They had the usual Baby Annabel dollies in smaller boxes for the same price, then a big display with these ones in bigger boxes with extra outfit and all the other bumph. That's probably why it was cheap, it's prob last year's dolly and her eyes don't even open let alone cry.

Noooooo, Im sure she cries, just not sure about the creepy head movement. Probably better if she doesn't, it might give dd1 the heeby jeebies
