I like the Stoves Sterling and the rangemaster toledo but have no idea if they are any good.

I want a contempoaray looking on rather than a traditional one and want to spemd maximum about £1500.

Anyone have any recommendations or advice?

Some one told me they thought Stoves was a bit 'tinny'.

For over £100 I don't want tinny.

WE had the all electric rangemaster toledo, fab cooker, looked stunning (wipes a tear) had to sell it as moved to new house with fitted oven, hob and was no way of fitting it in.

friendlyedjit · 20/08/2007 17:21
  • look around on line at baumatics- i have one and have found it good. They are expensive but there are always bargains on line.
I would if had the cash like an aga or something similar- or think i'd like one!!
SmileysPeeples · 20/08/2007 17:24

Was in the Aga shop at the weekend (looking at Firedearth tiles), hung my nose over the gorgeous aga's coveting wildly.

But alas way out of our price range.

So the Rangemaster Toledo had one satisfied customer, that's good to know.

I have a Rangemaster too, all gas, and have had very few problems with it. The electric starter for the oven isn't totally reliable any more, but it is 10 years old, so I just use one of those "megalighters" for it, but otherwise it's great. The stay-clean liners are fine, the top cleans up OK, and generally it's a very good. No fancy gadgets, but looks good and does what it says on the tin!

pooka · 20/08/2007 17:27

I have a rangemaster professional 60 and love it. The good thing about rangemaster is the number of different combinations you can have: electic/gas ovens and so on. With glass doors/without glass doors. Blah blah.

Think a friend has the toledo and no complaints as far as I am aware.

pooka · 20/08/2007 17:29

Sorry -think that should hve been prof 90. Useless on dimensions.
Mine is 2 electric fan ovens and electric grill, but gas hobs. Wish I'd gone for 1 fan electric/1 gas/gas hobs, but hey...

SmileysPeeples · 20/08/2007 17:30

Why do you think one electric and one gas oven would have been better pooka?

OP posts:
fruittea · 20/08/2007 17:31

Think electric ovens meant to be more reliable for steady heat, and gas hobs good for controllability. But have to say that I'm a bit of a Nigella on the baking front and have no problems with the gas oven.

Dingle · 20/08/2007 17:48

WE are having an extension built and our current kitchen and dining room will be knocked through to make a large kitchen...which we want to put a range in. Haven't any experience, so I will watch closely, but just by looking around I was impressed with the look of Rangemaster. Not sure of Stoves, but one thing tht swung me was the heavier cast iron pan stande thingies (can't think for the life of me what they are called!)aome of the other makes have quite flimsy ones that move and get knocked very easily.

Dingle · 20/08/2007 17:49

Sainsbury appliances had some at good prices when I looked a few months ago!

AllieBongo · 20/08/2007 17:51

i have an indesit this one but it was £401 with atlantic electric shop. check them out

MummyDarlingSausage · 20/08/2007 17:52

We have a Stoves Sterling and are very happy with it. We have the electric oven's and gas hob's which suits us. My dh does most of the cooking and is really pleased with it's ability's (s?). Don't know about it being tinny as we have nothing to compare it to (our first range cooker) though before we bought it we did look at alot in the same price bracket as yours and I wanted a smeg (purely aesthetic )but dh decided on the stoves as it had everything he needed and he did have final say as I get away with not cooking much!

Dingle · 20/08/2007 17:58

I think we are trying to be extra cautious though!! DD has SN and I just liked the stability of the cast iron, heavier pan supports.

MummyDarlingSausage · 20/08/2007 18:01

The cast iron pan supports are very heavy and cannot be knocked - they don't move at all apart from when you lift them up.

pooka · 20/08/2007 18:01

I'm not sure why really. Juat that I'm used to gas ovens, and think could have had a slow cook option with one gas/1 elecrtic. Would have been less of a jump. Having had a very unreliable 35 year old cooker until recently, having something that is very hot and fierce, like the fan assisted ovens seem to be in comparison, is a bit of a learning experience for me.

bambi06 · 20/08/2007 18:18

we bought a belling kensington in dec last year and we re very pleased with it..it has a separate grill[very important IMO] and two ovens.the one on the right is a tall oven with 5 shelves in..very handy at christmas!! ive got a gas hob..and electric ovens .its black with chrome top and handles and seems very solid to me..it also has griddle and wok burner..which we use a lot but up to individul taste..very solid pan rests and multi function ovens, one is fan oven and the other oven you can choose to have it as conventional or fan with various options..base heat only, intensive..for things like quiche/pizzas etc..theres so many different variations.. like i said were very pleased with it and it only cost us about £865, if memory serves me right.

Rhumba · 20/08/2007 20:09

Have just had a call today (minutes ago even)to say that my rangemaster professional plus in stainless steel is being delivered on Thursday so will let you know then. it looks fantastic and went for the rangemaster as recommended by others. think which have just done a review on them and also like the rangemaster. Am very excited (I know I should get out more) but it's 7 weeks since we moved here and i never want to use a microwave again!!

(Hi Pooka - long time no "see")

pooka · 20/08/2007 23:39

Hey Rhumba! How's Glasgow going for you? We too had been using a microwave for for about 6 weeks between kitchens/cookers. Horrible - just hearing that "bing" made me feel all depressed.
How's your dd? Tom mad as a hatter but very good fun. And he and dd are a real team.... most of the time
Mine is also stainless steel. Was a bit worried about cleaning the thing, but invested in fab stainless steel wipes and regularly wipe over and it still looks [fairly] pristine.

Rhumba · 21/08/2007 08:26

(sorry for the thread hijack everyone else)!!Pooka, all is well - finally got out of our rental after nearly a year and bought a lovely house in the southside. DS not starting school for another year is your DD starting in Sept or Jan. they usually get on well and play together but DD is getting a bit hitty and reduces big bro to tears. (proabably should slink back to Sept 05 thread to chat more!!)

Word of warning on the professional plus they initially rejected all the steel they had for production so the 4-6 week wait for the cooker became about 9 weeks. my understanding is they are just releasing them now so may be a bit of a back log.

pooka · 21/08/2007 09:29

Ours had a miniscule mark on one of the doors, which I wouldn't have noticed, but the delivery guy did. Like the sheet had creased when they were rolling the steel.
Anyway - they replaced the door 1 week later and gave us 3 saucepans as well. Worth about £140!

Rhumba. Lovely o be in your own place. How are you enjoying Glasgow? I was at uni there, so don't know the southside too well (lived in Hillhead and Kelvinside mostly). Loved Glasgow though. How lucky for ds not to be starting school yet, DD starts in Jan and I'm a bit sad because I do think it's a bit young really. She'll be just 4 and a half.

for big hi-jack]

Rhumba · 21/08/2007 09:42

the rangemaster toledo duel fuel came up best in which and is about 1350 i think.

Pooka can't get that link to work.

happycampers · 21/08/2007 11:04

Another vote for Rangemaster Professional 90. 2 x electric fan ovens, electric grill and gas hob. Had to replace elements in bothj ovens after 4 years (with a cheaper make!) but other than that no problems. Really pleased with it and do remember Stoves and Belling seeming flimsy in comparison.
