Water proof Mattress Cover for Pram?

I have a Dreamicot carrycot/bassinet for the Quinny Buzz. Do you need to put a waterproof pram sheet on top of the the mattress supplied? First baby, due in 4 weeks and clearly I'm completely clueless. I'm just trying to figure out how many waterproof mattress sheets I need to buy. One for the carrycot and one for the crib? Or would 2 each be better? What about the diposable mattress covers I've seen in Boots? Pampers or Huggies I think did them. Then, when you have the baby in the carrycot do you put the baby into the footmuff of just just use a rug? If you use the footmuff and there's an accident you just wash it and then would it matter if you had a mattress protector or would it go right through? The mattress protectors for this size are only flat sheets as well so I assume you would need to to then put a fitted pram/crib sheet on top?

Help... really confused!

you should not use a waterproof protector for a newborn...

as the matress is then not breathable and if they get on their tummy they can suffocate and die.

No such things should be used until at least 12 months.... if you read the small print on the pamapers mats you will see they say do not use for a baby udner 12 months

Wow. Thanks NannyL. I'm so glad I asked and decided to figure out how to post!
So just the cotton/jersey fitted sheets it is.

are you sure NannyL?
This one from Hippychick i have on my children's beds (and did have them on cots) and they are breathable

here

I've never ever heard that NannyL. Where have you seen this advice?

I find your post a little alarmist - if a baby rolls onto their tummy on a normal cotton covered mattress protector covered in a sheet that is well secured to the mattress they are not going to die.

I agree with the other poster - the Hippychick ones are breathable and excellent.

Just looked up the Hippychick mattress protectors and I see they do them in all sizes including pram/crib size. They also say that they are fully breathable and machine wash.
Sounds good? I'd rather have something on the mattress to protect from wetting. Don't like the idea on pee on the mattress even if they are washable.

Thanks ladies.

and re footmuff, just use sheets/blankets (or dress baby in extra cardi, jacket etc) and use the cover the Dreami comes with.
Footmuff is for the pushchair.

Definitely use a protector on the mattress - if you don't and your baby pukes on the bedding badly then it will soak through and they will be sleeping on a soggy bed even if you change the sheets etc.

Thanks for the info re the Footmuff Mrs Badger! Will use blankets and the Dremi cover. Makes total sense when you say it!
Also thanks again for the re-assurance re the mattress cover. Got the Hippychick one for the crib and will use it.
Again makes sense too forgot that babies puke as well as pee!!!
One week to go it's about time I get this stuff sorted out!!!
