Steam Gun

I am fed up with scrubbing around the shower, taps etc with an old toothbrush and was considering getting a steam gun to try and shift the dirt from the nooks and crannies.

Anyone got one...are they any good...and do they steam for long or do you have to keep filling them up?

Eve, I've got one - got it from John Lewis. The brand name is "Polti" and it cost about £50.

TBH I've always been deeply disappointed in it! It does clean stuff, but I find the pump mechanism on it (to get the steam out) really hard on my hands. Plus, it tends to dribble lots of boiling hot water instead of just emitting steam.

Am considering buying a proper steam cleaner now, as my Aunt has one and its brilliant. Hers was about £140 from Index, a lot more than £50 but she uses it a lot.

I have an eletrolux envirosteamer which is hand held but really great. Only cost about £40 from Makro.

jampot...does the steam last long in them or do you have to keep stopping to refill.........and do they clean well?

it cleans brilliantly - especially round taps (yuck) and cooker!!! The pot of steam lasts for quite a while considering the size of it. Very addictive once you get started!!

Found one of these yesterday in Woolworths for £20 and tackled the shower with it last night.

Think its great, really powerful jet of steam, easy botton to release steam (in fact 5year old DS insisted on holding it down.) and lasted about 15 mins.

Plan on tackling round all the taps next.....and its not because I am super clean....we live in a hard water area and the scummy limescale really annoys me!

I've got the Electrolux one too but hardly ever use it - its a pain change the nozzles and it doesn't have a very big tank (its hand held) plus I find quite heavy and awkward.

To be fair we don't have a limescale problem in Manchester so I guess it would be pretty good if you did have that problem. On the plus side its excellent on the glass and tiles in the shower cubicle and windows which is about all I use it for.
