Car seats - recommendations?

I need to get a new car seat for my 7 month old as he has almost reached the weight limit on his first stage one. The Britax Freeway Excel which I had for my first two kids is knackered - that is the one most people we know bought 7 years ago - can anyone recommend one of the seats currently on the market?

We bought a Maxi Cosi Priori XP which comes in loads of different colours and we love it. It's very secure, our DS loves the fact it's quite high so he can stare out the window and it's also really easy to recline into the sleeping position. I can recline it one-handed whilst driving - so useful. We bought ours off Kiddicare (www.kiddicare.com) as they were cheaper than anywhere else.

Another recommendation for the Priori from us (used one for ds and now for dd)

I had 2 Britax Club Class car seats, found them to be very good. Definitely important that they recline. Mine two only fitted in comfortably until just over age three though, not the recommended five years. Now using Britax Rangers. I think it also depends on your car, not all fit in all cars which is a nightmare if you have two different cars!

Priori XP recently came top in a WHICH? report. We bought it and it's great.

If you have the Isofix system in your car(s) I would certianly recommend using the Britax Duo. It is expensive, but excellent. Attaches to the car, not using seat belts - so very easy to fit (literally in seconds), almost impossible to fit wrong, (biggest danger with car seats) and is extrememly safe. In the last big AA car seat test it was one of the only car seats to get top marks. And if you need to use it in a non-Isofix car at any time, it can be fitted using seat belts as normal - like any other Britax seat.

We bought a Maxi Cosi car seat which i'm sure was voted one of the best car seats by 'Which'. when i bought one for dd1 it was £90 but when i went to buy one for dd2 (as dd1 still in hers) it was £150 because they've had such good reviews and become so popular that they obviously felt the previous price didn't reflect that!! It reclines into various positions and has if you get it from Halfords they'll fit it for you although it's very easy to swap it from car to car.

Another vote for the Britax Isofix - if your car allows.

another vote for the eclipse - even brought it with us to Aus when we moved. Brilliant - easy to fix and can be changed from car to car

cellulitequeen · 27/09/2004 18:01

Another vote for Maxi Cosi Priori XP from Kiddicare. Fabulous seat. Also have Britax Freeway in second car but Maxi Cosi is far superior.

Juliehafrancis · 27/09/2004 23:04

Yep another note for the Maxi Cosi Priori XP!
Word of warning though - don't get the added soft table thing that some internet shops offer as it is a waste of money (if you do want it though..I would be happy to post it to you) Just CAT me!

Just bought a Britax Rennaisance (from kiddicare) and so far so good. It's got a seat-belt tensioner thingy that works really well. Very easy to fit and to move between cars. Ds loves it as he can now see out of the window.

teabelly · 28/09/2004 11:01

Yet another thumbs up for the Maxi Cosi
Extremely easy to install - even dh can do it!! also has clips to hold seatbelt out of the way when putting lo into the seat - invaluable when they're alseep.

Carameli · 28/09/2004 12:46

we've just ordered the maxi cosi priori xp from kiddicare. They have some for 99.99 at the moment, says only a few left so I would be quick if its what you want.

Marina · 28/09/2004 12:49

We have a Renaissance from Britax which is now on to its second child. It was a toss-up between the Renaissance and the Priori, I think they're both excellent, highly safety-rated seats. You might want to go to a stockist of both and see which fits your car best.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I went along to Halfords this morning to check them out and I've just ordered the Britax Eclipse from Kiddicare.

The Britax super cruiser is a very easy car seat to use!.We used one for each of our 3.Our eldest is 10 and youngest is 2 and it was fab with all 3.
I have recommended them to loads of familly and friends(many of which also have one and love it).
It seems to fit any shape of child too!
