Anyone have a wheely bug?

They are rather pricey, aren't they? Is it worth forking out my hard-earned pennies on one? Also if anyone has details of a good offer on these (Kiddicare have a good bulk-buy reduction) I'd be might grateful.

i got one on ebay, kids love it....

barbamama · 14/08/2007 19:38

We got one for ds first BD - still loves it now at nearly 3. I think they are worth it for a special occasion as they do last - at first he just played with the antennae, then he used it as a baby walker, then rode around on it and now uses it as a mobile stool. They seem to follow the stages quite well from cruising to walking/running and now scooting about on it like a madman. It has lasted really well too so definitely worth it for a first child as could easily get passed down.

We got ours from John Lewis using discount codes on hotukdeals. Would also highly recommend, both our boys love it, they are always playing with it, bit hairy watching the 15month old fly down the hallway on it though!

XcupcakemummyX · 14/08/2007 20:29

they are great fun.Ours is called bumble bumble, they do go very fast on floorboards or tiled floors ds can do amazing turns on his

Wheelybug · 14/08/2007 20:32

You called

dd has one and has done since her 1st birthday, she is now 2.6 and has loved it since she's had it. I think its the best toy she's ever owned and I am now wondering whether she should have a bigger one for christmas or her 3rd birthday.

barking · 14/08/2007 20:42

we have 3 boys aged 2, 4 and 7 and as a joint birthday present bought 3 large wheely bugs, they adore them. I wish I had bought them sooner. Found them on ebay for £39.99. So funny watching them whizz around and they use up lots of energy on wet days. We have the bumblebees as I was worried they would fight over differnt ones - but they have ended up customising them anyway.
Don't know what size your after, but just to let you know a friend bought the small one and it is very tiny and was quickly outgrown.
Not sure if it"s still for sale, but saw one on here earlier

BirdyArms · 14/08/2007 20:50

We have one and agree with everyone else that it's great - very sturdy, great on inside floors, good from crawling and doesn't take up too much room. If your child is under 2 would defintely get the smaller one as their legs wouldn't touch the floor on the larger one - dh can ride our small one - although I do have a family of short-legged men!

barbamama · 15/08/2007 14:59

I forgot to add that they are also quite aesthetically pleasing so you can keep them out in plain view without having to hide them away with all the other garish plastic toys, if such things concern you. My ds nearly 3 is still fine on the little one tho again is quite short legged. A cruiser/new walker would definitely need the smaller one.

bagpuss · 15/08/2007 18:55

Bump to 3 have 20% off them at the moment. ds2 has one (1st Birthday present) and it gets played with an awful lot, both by him and his older siblings.

Bubbaloo · 15/08/2007 20:24

Ds1 has the bee wheely bug and still races about on it-we got it off Ebay, and was so much cheaper.
Will probably buy him the bigger one for christmas.

Lartasha · 15/08/2007 20:37

Im also interested in the wheelbug and am in a dilemma over which size to buy. DD's are 1 and 3 next month. Initally thought about buying 2, one in each size but now thinking of buying just 1 large bug for them to share. I know 1 year old wont get much use yet but have in mind the comment of the small one being quickly outgrown and therefore money better spent on the large one. What does everyone think? thanks

Bubbaloo · 15/08/2007 21:00

They may fight over it,if there's only one bug.

My ds1 is 26 months and very tall for his age.We have the smaller bug and he uses it all the time with no probs, although he does look a little big for it.Saying that, his friend who is 3.5 s still using hers and hasn't outgrown it yet.

barking · 15/08/2007 21:13

I would still advise the bigger one and to get two as they may start to fight over it. If unsure find an outlet to try out different sizes, then buy on ebay.

barbamama · 16/08/2007 11:53

It's a tricky one - I have to say that my 2.7 year old is still fine on his own small one - but has short legs, but when we were on holiday they had a big one in the hotel and he loved that too. I guess in the long run if you are only getting one you would get more use out of the big one even if your one year old takes a while to be able to use it, he will probably just play on it for a while before being able to ride it at around 18 month - 2 ish I'd say. - ideally I would say get one of each size though. I know my SIL bought her little girl a big one for her third BD as she felt she had outgrown the little one.

ruddynorah · 16/08/2007 11:57

dd has the small one, got it for her 1st birthday. she is small though. loves the thing. we got the cow one. she even feeds the blummin thing! i will definately get her the next size up when she grows a bit more, her feet only just touch the floor with it now, though she mainly plays with it as a pet IYSWIM.

Lartasha · 16/08/2007 19:23

thanks for your advice. Both girls are really tall for their age. The soon to be 3 year old is more like a 4 year old in height. I can't think of any shops which sell them to try out, other than john lewis but they only stock the small.
