HELP!!! Dd's 2nd birthday just weeks away and we can't find a good present for her. We've been thinking about a dolls house, anyone have any ideas where might sell a good but not ridiculously pricey one? I went to Hamley's today and they were v. uninspiring and v. expensive. Actually there was only 3 to choose from ...

Do you want wooden or don't mind a plastic toy one?

If the latter:

DD has some of the Happy Land toys from ELC and she loves the little house. Comes with a family and a car. All the furniture is fixed and some has sound effects - TV flashes and noises, cooker sizzles, door bell rings, toilet has flush sound and bath has running sound. This is the new version of it. Costs £25

If she is girly Toys R Us have a new disney princess range:

Snow White and 7 dwarfs - little play house with accessories £49.99. My 2yo is desperate for this! There is also a mnicro version of it for £19.99 but I think it is too small for tiny hands.

Wooden houses at Toys R Us:

Georgian house £50.

adnd this one is a cute little one - bargain at £15.

Furniture packs were about £5-£10 a time I think.

Yorkiegirl, she's a very gentle, chatty non-physical kind of a girl. Hard to get her out of the house most days . I'll show that house to dp, it looks fun.

Hulababy, thanks. I'll look at those too. I kind of prefered the idea of a wooden one as she seems to have amassed a lot of plastic toys and we'd like it to be a bit special, but I'm not set in stone about it. Actually dd has that happyland house from ELC and she's loved it too, she takes the people out in her bag with her when we go out! ELC's very good isn't it? The Toys r us ones you've linked to look great. Will show dp later for 'executive' decision .

The biggest UK supplier of dollshouses is dollhouse emporium based in derbyshire (but they do mail order). They do the specialist collector models but also have a junior collection - very good but more expensive than a regular toy shop/ELC - www.dollshouse.co.uk HTH

Hello prefernot - hope all's well with you. I saw a really nice one in the Great Little Trading Company catalogue. It was wooden but didn't have many outside walls so they could play more easily I guess - it came complete with dolls. I was thinking of it for dd for Christmas.

Hulababy · 23/09/2004 17:38

Plan make some nice wooden doll's house too. Not sure on prices though.

We have fallen lucky with this. DD's great grandad wants to make Dd one this winter. I'm not going to argue!

Welshmum, hi! I'll look out that one on the web as we don't get the catalogue here. See you soon xxx

Hulababy, who are Plan?

marz, I'm not a member. In fact I don't even know what costco is ...

socci, just off the check that site now. Thanks.

Plan - a company that makes wooden toys I think. Just remember seeing some before.

Found a Plan doll's hous eon Amazon: here for £65.

One on special offer here too - down to £45. And this includes 2 dolls and furniture.

Some on this site too. These have some you can build on to - like an extra floor underneath, etc. And the self same city house (see above) is less than £40 here.

prefernot · 23/09/2004 21:05

Gosh, Hulababy, you're ever so good. Thanks!
