Can't believe it. Just had a look at ELC online and they've put all their prices up hugely.

Was going to buy DD the dolls house for her birthday, it's £80, but with the 20% off Big Birthday Club it's down to £64. Had a look today and the original price is £90 now. That's an 11% price hike in a few days - shocking!!

Everything is more expensive there this week - what are they thinking?

Doll's house in my case would be for DDs 2nd birthday, but I would rather have something a bit more natural looking.

Mentioned it to DH who started going on about wanting to paint a dolls house with murals . Hopefully his enthusiasm will wane a bit .

Our house is actually pink, but not quite the vivid pink that ELC seem to like .

barbamama · 12/08/2007 16:04

Do you know I was even thinking about buying a pink one and painting it to tone down the pink a bit - like I will ever have time.

I think the wooden ones look a lot nicer. Am tempted by the toys r us one.

I noticed about a year ago that they'd hiked their prices. I think they expect you to joing the birthday club and get 20% off anyway. Would prefer they kept prices low for everyone all the time. Agree, hate all the pink/blue nonsense. Rarely go in now TBH.

Rarely used our local one and it has now closed, so I obviously wasn't the only thinking it was too pricey.

LIZS · 12/08/2007 16:25

They've added a range for older kids, online at least, but their prices don't seem that competitive. Mine have pretty much outgrown what they offer in store. I'm sure we'll see the elc brand appearing in Mothercare and more closures.

don't get me started
my sister bought DD1 a CD player for her birthday (£35), but it came with NO PLUG! Batteries (3 x C) lasted about a day, so in the end i caved and went in to buy the plug - £15!

so £50 for a cheap plastic bright pink CD player. grrrrrrrrrrr
