Jolly Good Coffee Machine Not Too Pricey - ?

Recommendations for tried and tested coffee makers - fairly simple ones please which keep a pot warm and possibly have a frother arm thingy. The cheap Asda one has proved false economy - I hate to say I told you so, DH, but I did ...

No you just can't buy a good coffeee machine that isn't too pricey.

You need a sturdy espresso machine not one of these 100 diff flavour things. Unfortunately that means you need a Gaggia or similar and they aint cheap.

We've got the Gaggia Classic, fab but nearly £300. DP was in shock when I bought it but we'd now need a custody agreement if we parted up as niether of us could live without it.

Nespresso are good. We have a mid range one and it is 5 years old and as good as new. Previously we had a filter machine which I think was a Krups and not too expensive from John Lewis - that was also good but we were seduced by the Nespresso and have never looked back.

what do you need it to do?

A cafetiere www.dennyandsons.co.uk/pyrex-glass-c11.html and a whizzer www.dennyandsons.co.uk/frothing-whisks-c201.html will do the job quickly, cheaply and take up little space.

(Custody agreement - lol!)

Hmm, £100 sounding preferable to £300 although one wouldn't want to "buy cheap buy twice" now would one? Good idea Pruners, I will have a look.

Have found the revered Gaggia Classic sold by Amazon for £250 ...

I've got a little whizzer thingy, but is that a bit faffy?

The Gaggia Evoluition gets pretty good reviews. As far as I understand it's your average Gaggia just wrapped in more plastic. It reatails around £150-160.

However...the secret of a good coffee is of course having a top notch grinder and some freshly toasted beans!

Some of the cheaper Gaggias can be a bit flimsy. Read some of the reviews on Amazon just to be sure.

Think the Cubika had a few bad reviews which is why we went for the Classic. Weighs a ton but is very sturdy, had it a while now with never a whimper and it does get a battering especially at the weekend.

If you can stretch to it Illy coffee makes fantastic coffee. I'm only allowed it for high days and holidays as it's nearly £4 a tin!!!!! If dp really wants to be nice he makes me a double Illy latte with full fat milk-heaven!!!! Doesn't happen that often though.
