Forward/Rear Facing Pushchairs

Hi everyone

I'm looking for some help re pushchairs that face both the rear and the front.

Years ago (1990 ish) i used to have a Maclaren pushchair (not an umbrella fold) that was both forward facing and rear facing, which was great for when my DS was little and i could keep an eye on him. However, I seem to be having trouble finding any kind of pushchair that is both front/rear facing within my price range.

This is what i am looking for:

Front/Rear facing
Four wheels (preferably the large wheeled type)
Car seat
Up to £250 maximum

Can anybody please help me find what i'm looking for? I'm afraid i'm going to spend hours trawling the net in my quest for the right pushchair so thought i'd check out the Oracle of all things children first.

Thanx in advance!

Lots of the Hauck I'coo range would fit your needs and they are in plentiful supply on ebay.

NoviceKnitter · 06/08/2007 11:21

i wanted same and did lots of research - ended up plumping for icandy cherry. dd still tiny so still in pram but so far pleased with purchase. like many with backward facing option you have to take seat off to fold. there are some that fold in one but they're alot heavier. cherry is v light. quite new out. fits yr price range. www.icandyuk.com/cherry.htm

Mamas & papas do these - just buy one locally off ebay 2nd hand???

NoviceKnitter · 06/08/2007 11:23

ps actually is about £210 for buggy without pram, so with pram and / or car seat may be more than ou want to spend. anyway hth

Thanx for your responses.

My DP and I are currently looking at a Britax pushchair (cant remember which model) which comes with a car seat. The car seat does actually face forwards but i think i'm just worried about the baby being in the car seat for too long, although in all honesty, we're only going to be using the pushchair/car seat for short local trips. I dont think the baby being in the car seat for too long is going to be that much of an issue as it will deffo not be for longer than an hour and deffo not on a regular basis for that long.

I'm just very reluctant to pay any more money than i have to for something that could be construed as "gimmicky" and not used for longer than a few months, IYSWIM.

ok what is your lifesyle?

do you walk, use public transport, use a car more, if car how big is your boot?

its better to get a car seat that fits your car than your pram. one of the safest is the maxi cosi cabrio and is one thats generally used on a lot of travel systems.

you could have a look at the mutsy range, very good, seat faces either way and men seem to love the design.

are you ok buying second hand or do you want new for your baby?

Nbg · 06/08/2007 14:54

I've got the Hauck Infinity and that ticks all your boxes.

I love it. Really good sturdy pushchair.

purplepants · 06/08/2007 14:56

Silver Cross do one that comes with a car seat (it's a bit of a tank but I loved mine for DS) the body/pushchair bit is forward or rear facing and converts to a proper carrycot (so no need for moses basket) that clips onto the wheel frame. I'll find out the name and post later (got ours in 05 so they're bound to be on E-Bay)

preggersagain · 06/08/2007 15:02

silver cross sleepover/freeway on liner/classic chassis- loads of combos there!

RGPargy · 06/08/2007 15:04

Ladyvicofcake: As far as lifestyle goes, we both drive so wont be taking public transport. It'll be used for minimal walkage, i.e. maybe an hour a day if that and my boot is fairly large (i have a Vectra).

With regard to the car seat, that is one reason why i opted for the Britax. They are primarily car seat manufacturers so i knew the car seat would be OK. Peace of mind for me and all that.

The Mutsy does look quite snazzy......

I want to buy new for this baby, not because i'm being a snob or anything, but because i could never afford a new pram (or in fact a new ANYTHING) with my DS and so as we can afford to buy new now, we want to take advantage of that fact and spoil the baby with shiny new stuff.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 06/08/2007 15:21

if you're keen to have a good car seat that fits, maxicosi cabrio (Which? best buy for safety etc) fits the cherry - but that does bring it all to well over £250... maxi cosi is nearly £100 alone.

sarahlou1uk · 07/08/2007 22:35

For the early months, I had a Hauck Infinity which came with car seat adapters for both Graco and M&P car seats. I had a Graco car seat which fitted onto an in car base. It was so easy to lift the car seat out of the car, onto the pram chassis and go to school. No messing with seat belts every time you want to go out - the base stays in the car and the car seat just clips in.
