Hello,

My partner and I (not married) are looking to move in together, we've got a 1 year old girl.

I live in my own place, which I receive housing benefit, universal credit and also child benefit.

He lives with his parents and he works 40 hours a week.
He can't actually claim benefits, so we aren't able to do a joint clam.

I'm just wondering if anyone would be able to let me know what benefits I would lose.

Thank you!

Why can’t he claim benefits? If he has a visa stamped with ‘no recourse to public funds’ you will still need to apply as a joint claim.

Hello, as he's on an IVA i thought he couldn't do a joint claim, but I was wrong, he can.

So if we do a joint claim will I lose a lot?

He can do a joint claim and will have to let the IVA company know. It all depends how much he earns. If you put all the details in to the calculator on the entitled to website it’ll give you a rough estimate.

If you make a joint claim it will be assessed on his income. Your entitlement will depend on how much he earns and the relevant LHA rate/ rent for your area.

If you move in as a couple you have to make a joint claim, there's calculators online as a guide. He should be paying child support already!

Okay thank you for the replies I'll have a look on the calculators online
