I got that set at Ikea on Wednesday, I think it was..... can't remember but it was cheap. Also the seats and table are a bit lower than some of the others so more suitable for very little ones. I had a plastic one and 4 chairs years ago from ELC that I think was cheap, dont know if they still do it.

nikcola i find the best ones are in index the one were getting is a chair where the tray ataches but it does fold donw into a tidy little case for traveling but for older children i would have to say the one in index pg 959 that one got a magnetic board on the bact for added entertainment thats 29.99 or the more exspensive one on pg958 the wooden one but that is 59.99 but its a propper writing esk for children so she can keep stuff in there as well and just shut it up

The Ikea one does seem good quality, its still in pieces in the box but I have opened it and it looks good..... the disply one was fine. Could be a pain not being painted/stained but I don't mind that (anyone advise me on painting Ikea furniture and whether I need special paint and varnish? {grin] )

It's dead easy to paint the furniture - we used a bit of old paint that was left from decorating the house, just made sure that it was bright and DD loved it. Have repainted it recently and have written the kids names on the seats of the chairs too in cartoon writing (promise I'm not arty either). We gave it a coat of matt varnish just to make sure that it would be OK though as we used emulsion. I suppose if you used gloss, acrylic eggshell or satin wood you wouldn't need the varnish either!! Happy painting

Paint it before you put it together - you'll get a better finish.
Use a roller (those little foam mini rollers are great as you can just bin the foam bit afterwards).
Paint it (or at least the top) with a washable paint! I just stained ours and it's not robust enough. It needs a good washable surface to be practical.

No Davros, you don't need to use special paint. I painted my ds's with B&Q everywhere paint that can be used literally everywhere!

Thanks everyone, I've got a stack of half used tins of paint in glorious colours , I will get painting. I will do it before putting it together as I've been put off by the hefty sack of screws and dowels.

I got dd a stool from Ikea at the weekend.
It's like a bar stool but for kids and is a perfect fit at the dinner table.
It's black and tonight i gave her lots of paints and she personalised it

Think i'll now varnish it to preserve her artwork!
