I'm looking for:

hatchback (not a supermini like the Aygo or Fiat 500)
reliable
decent sized boot
enough engine power (1.3+)
quick demist (my current car takes forever to clear the ice on a winters day )
rear sensor parking
good visibiity all round , no dodgy blindspots

I;m looking at

Toyata Yaris
Honda Jazz
Ford Fiesta
Hyandi i20
Nissan Note

Any glaringly good or bad?

I;'m ancient , low Insurance risk
Price around £10k for a 1-3 yo

TIA

off that list id go with ford fiesta.

just got a ford and absolutely love it. also own a corsa but prefer the ford hands down.
just test drove loads and couldnt beat the quality and feel of a ford.
we went a bit bigger this time with a kuga .

Ford Focus - fantastic

PurpleDaisies · 27/07/2019 17:50

I have a Ford Fiesta. I’ve got the 1.0 eco boost which has a turbo so feels like it’s got a much bigger engine. Lovely to drive and easy to park. Has a front heated windscreen as well as rear which is brilliant. You can get ones with parking sensors and the boot is plenty big enough for me. Guinea pigs’ carrier fits in the footwell.

I’d definitely recommend it.

Scoleah · 27/07/2019 17:54

I'd go with a Ford.
They have the little button u press to defrost the windscreen.

Heratnumber7 · 27/07/2019 18:09

Citroën C4 Cactus
Has everything you mention, and more. We love ours.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2019 18:20

Focus would be too big I think . I looked at some FiestvFocus sites to compare .

What's the boot size on the Fiesta?
(I don't have any piggies to carry about now Purple ) Sad

I looked at the Citreon video, I can drink coffee on a bumpy road and walk about carrying an owl while driving through swishy white curtains according to that (can see that the advert totally awed me Grin )

Sorry 70, I hadn’t realised you’d lost your last one. Sad

hellenbackagen · 27/07/2019 18:38

If focus too big the try fiesta. Test drone those on your list you'll soon narrow it down.

I did !

RottnestFerry · 28/07/2019 09:19

The Suzuki Ignis is noted for its good ground clearance. They do a 4x4 version too.

RottnestFerry · 28/07/2019 09:55

Duh! I was actually responding to another thread.

TiddleTaddleTat · 28/07/2019 18:44

I'm a fan of Toyota and Honda so would go with the 1.5 Yaris (2017 onwards). Either icon or icon tech spec, you could get one in budget.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/07/2019 19:37

Is the Yaris boot a decent size (I've googled but cannot find the Jazz boot size)

I drive a Note at the moment but I don't really want the newer ones TBH. The new shape Micra is bigger but again reviews not great .

I've seen so much conflicting pro/con reviews on all the cars I've searched up.

The Jazz boot size is excellent and has the magic folding seats - really useful when moving furniture etc.
Yaris boot seems smaller but recent models seem good for the size of the car overall.

I take the car reviews with a pinch of salt, find honest John most useful as lots of the others just blather on about 0-60 etc

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2019 13:08

Wellllllllll
I went in with a Shopping List ( as above) and came out with............

A Nissan Juke !

It was not on my radar at all but once I drove it , I thought "Yes, you tick the boxes"

And my DD said I cannot turn my back on a long history of Nissans .

So , we have it .

Ford Fiesta has my vote. They also can come with heated windscreens which is great in winter.

Have you also thought about a Skoda Fabia I had an Octavia and my sister has a fabia and we love them.

Farmerswifey12 · 03/08/2019 13:18

I'd go with honda but a civic if within budget. Rear camera so better than sensors, for a everything in your list, and boot space is brilliant for a hatchback

Farmerswifey12 · 03/08/2019 13:19

Never mind I see you have chosen already! Enjoy your new car
