Kitchen sinks - what should we buy?

We're having a new kitchen fitted (IKEA jobby), but we need to buy a sink. DH wants a white one, but the vast majority of sinks on the market are stainless steel. The sink we currently have is stainless steel but, at only 8 mths old, looks like a wreck - and it's not for want of cleaning! So I'm wary of buying another even though they can seem reasonably priced and there is so much more choice. Are all SS sinks like this or was the one in our kitchen just a cheap job? If so, what should we look out for?

Hi, stainless steel does mark very easily and ours also looks a total wreck 3 years on. Next time, I am going to have a ceramic or Corian sink. Corian is extremely versatile and looks lovely. A little bit more pricey though. these people are very good and have the whole colour range.

If you do decide on stainless steel, look for a good name, such as Franke.

I can't remember the name of the product, but we got a white sink that was man-made and textured. It is seriously cr*p. The only way to get it white is to bleach it and that is meant to damage the surface. So annoyed as I specifically asked the salesperson if it cleaned up okay...

What is the problem with your SS sink? Is it scratches or watermarks? If watermarks, you can get some amazing products that bring them up like new. Otherwise, I'd go for ceramic although you can chip, break or mark those too...
