Sling for around the house - recommendations please

Our 4 week old DD loves her Kari-Me sling but I find it a bit of a palaver and also a bit over hot for easy in and outing around the house. Thinking of one of those single pouch slings perhaps. Any thoughts or suggestions?

i have roobaby pouch sling.it was ideal when ds was smaller for round house and out.i used it when doing housework, cooking, playing with older dc and whilst bathing older children.just slip them in and very comfy.was still using it as hipseat until recently-ds is 18 months but i have bad back

I just used a large pashmina tied with a double knot. Can be opened and retied when they get bigger too. Carried my ds in it all the time and still do ocassionally and he is nearly 2! Cheap and easy. Hot tip, if you wet the part you are knotting before you tie it, it's easier to tie more tightly. Never had the knot slip out and hands free for doing stuff.

Noviceknitter, I never had any problems with that but my pashmina is a really wide one and I pulled it wide over his bum and halfway up his back when he was in it. Could do pretty much anything around the house when wearing it and its great for around town, no manhandling buggies etc

no not adjudustable.what size are you as i have small(8-10) i dont need any more.

kiskidee · 28/07/2007 04:48

if you want to experiment a bit before buying something, look at this link she turns a bedsheet into a pouch sling.

All you really need is to get a piece of 100% cotton the same width as your kari-me and about 3.2 mtrs long. then follow the instructions in the video.

there are other links in teh blog which look useful.

ps she said 'fussy baby' just as she turned away from the camera.

pashminas are not advised b/c the fabrics tend to be slippy and the knot wouldn't be secure. ( which is why the Queenee wets teh fabric first.)

Thanks all. Moljam I'm 8-10 so yes would be interested in buying yours if you're finished with it - how much do you want for it. Looks like the kind of easy thing I need. The other ideas look great but a bit too time consuming like the KM. As DD is currently feeding more often than she's not I need all other activities to be a quick and easy as poss

another good page about the practicalities of slinging

SoupDragon · 28/07/2007 11:10

Pouches are fab. I have a fleece one, a thin cotton one and a stretch cotton jersey one...

oh, should add, she used the sheet sling like a ring sling. (with the knot in front and just below the shoulder.) if you put the knot in about the same position but on your back, it will work like a pouch sling. hope this doesn't sound too wierd.

Moljam - thanks loads but have now checked my measurements on the website and I am the next size up from you. Ah well - hope your back gets better x
