Dishwasher safe - why on the top shelf?

Can someone please help me? My husband insists that there is no difference between the top shelf and the bottom shelf in a dishwasher despite the fact all the baby/toddler utensils I buy all say to be washed on the top shelf in the dishwasher. He said until I can explain why this is he will continue to wash dd's (2yrs old) goodies wherever there is a space and frankly it's beginning to p*ss me off. Before I bring in the marriage guidance people, can any of you give a suitable explanation for my stubborn (not D) H. Thank you!

In ours the jets of water are much stronger on the lower level and can easily dislodge/tip over plastic bowls and cups. Means they fill up and don't get properly cleaned. HTH

bugzi
husbands and wives often find the stacking the dishwasher at source of contention. I used to HATE the way DH stacked the dishwasher, wasting so much space and being lazy. GOd it used to drive me mental!!

Now that I am without a dishwasher in my new home I would give anything to let him stack it with three knives and a pan and turn it on to the longest cycle,

Also the heating element is generally right under the bottom shelf so plastic things could be distorted/melted even if they do stay put - if they fall through they have had it!

It is cooler on the top shelf.

Suzy, can't you have a row about the washing machine? Hours of marital strife available there, I find.

Marina · 14/09/2004 13:36

I think if he persists with this Bugzi you need to get him to CLIMB IN AND SEE FOR HIMSELF

NomDePlume · 14/09/2004 13:39

My DH is also truly useless at loading the dishwasher, I have to rearrange it when he's not looking. Control freak, Moi ?!

JuniperDewdrop · 14/09/2004 13:42

My dh has only filled ours twice!! He did it recently and left a glass upwards so when I opened it to empty it the glass tipped and water went all over the floor. He asked if he'd done it right when he got in from work and I lied as he was so pleased with himself bless. I can't complain as he can spot a garments wash cycle at 50 paces

PMSL Marina !

You're not a control freak NDP you are perfectly sensible nice lady..... like me.

suzywong · 14/09/2004 13:44

MI, can't go there I'm afraid, MIL does the laundry

NomDePlume · 14/09/2004 13:55

Gawd, it seems like we have the same godforsaken 'Why are MY clothes never clean?' row every week. Every single time he accuses me of washing everyone else stuff and leaving his at the bottom of the basket.... Trying to explain to him that he buys stuff that runs something chronic and so I have to wait until I've got a decent load, is a complete waste of time.

pixiefish · 14/09/2004 13:58

sounds like my house

JuniperDewdrop · 14/09/2004 13:59

I'm going to admit to a fantasy of mine now since getting my dishwasher. I'm so in awe of it I'd love to get inside and watch it do it's stuff I know I should have changed my name to saddomum but I'm very open minded!

Thanx everyone, it seems we all have the same problem here. Suzywong, after reading that you no longer have a dishwasher, I have to say I think I?ll just shut up and let him do exactly what you said - 4 bowls, 2 spoons and a sieve on intense! Why can't they see how a dishwasher works? I think I?m going to enlarge a picture of a full dishwasher from an advert as a "guide" for him! Probably be divorced by the end of the week! He also complained that I didn't unpack the dishwasher on Saturday, so did it all on Sunday and then last night rearranged his packing and he nearly freaked out! But the thought of not having the dishwasher at all sends shivers down my spine, so I think I?ll just let him get on with it and if he breaks it .... I?ll divorce him! The washing machine is practically the same but again, without it I would not be married so I?ll just let him get on with it and constantly criticise the way I do everything, which of course is the correct way!!
