More economical mpv

Hi All

I currently am on my 2nd Volvo XC90 and
Love it. Fuel is killing me though. It runs about 30 mpg on school/work run. Planning on changing. No longer need 7 seats but like the height of an mpv style.

Any recommendations?

I wouldn’t consider an XC90 to be an MPV - it’s an SUV. 30mpg is pretty good from a large car on what I guess are fairly short journeys and I don’t think you’ll get much better unless you swap to something smaller. If you’re planning to spend more then just consider it may be false economy. Over 10,000 miles the difference between 30 and 40 mpg is less than £500 per year in fuel costs. If it’s newish then that is a small proportion of the overall cost of ownership.

A plug in hybrid should use less fuel. The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV springs to mind, but there will be others. Do Volvo now do a plugin hybrid XC60/90?

The people I know with Outlander PHEV absolutely curse them for their fuel economy. They’re great for doing a few miles a day on pure electric but once on petrol they do about 25mpg.

I switched from a Volvo XC90 to a hybrid Bmw 2 active tourer in March. It’s fab, easy to park fuel costs low, gets our family in, boot just about big enough to get my Labrador in. Has a sports function which makes it really nippy. Now our dds are at uni didn’t need the 7 seats anymore.

Oh and I do a lot of short journeys to work so the charging is ok for me. If I had a longer commute it might not have been the best for me - depends on what type of journeys you do
