Thinking of getting a dryer mainly for towels and sheets. Not sure what model to go for. Have been advised to get one with a large drum capacity.

maisym,

mine just broke today, got good deal in comet 8kg hoover £179.99, reduced from £300.
only thing its vented one, which is fine for me as its going in the garage.

last one candy lasted 3 years and hammered every day. most now are about 7kg
some good deals on.

Good luck

maisym · 16/07/2007 20:59

i checked loads of different models, currys comet to compare.
think they both do price check, if u order on line can get good offers but need to pay delivery. i told currys cheaper in comet and she waivered delivery charge.

bramblina · 16/07/2007 21:45

White knight are dead cheap but are made by Philips, so worth considering.

MrsBadger · 16/07/2007 21:50

IIRC Which? rate the Hotpoint VTD00 Aquarius best of the vented ones in its price range - £160 ish. They slated most of the White Knight ones...

bigknickersbigknockers · 16/07/2007 21:52

I bought a white knight from a couple who were emigrating and its great. Cost £30 and is still going strong8 years later

Bubbaloo · 16/07/2007 23:02

I bought a White Knight Condensor last year which I'm very pleased with but it does take quite a while to dry the clothes.

brimfull · 16/07/2007 23:15

Bosch ,tis shite,
door keeps falling off, can't wait for it to break properly.

EscapeFrom · 16/07/2007 23:16

I had a brilliant white knight - cheap as chips, l;asted ages, just not very big!

Now have an Indesit, only 2 years old, but the door latch has already needed replacing, and the belt has had to be replaced!

suzycreamcheese · 16/07/2007 23:19

aeg electrolux lavatherm
throughly recommend them, its condenser one though if that makes a difference
no bits have fallen off and easy to clean

was expensive but needed and came with washing machine in deal at john lewis (also 2 year guarantee with them)

brimfull · 16/07/2007 23:21

"easy to clean" christ do I have to clean my dryer ??

heavy · 16/07/2007 23:22

i have a condenser now and it takes ages to dry stuff compared to the vented one i had before. would never get another condenser.

lilolilmanchester · 16/07/2007 23:24

heavy, we have a condenser and it's great. Do you empty the water container each time you use it? Also, we have to clear the fluff off the filter on the door each time we use it and rinse another one below the condenser every now and then.

suzycreamcheese · 16/07/2007 23:27

lol ggril...just the fluffy bits...no panicking
please!

DontCallMeBaby · 16/07/2007 23:30

Which? have got three 7kg best buy machines in their latest report:
AEG-Electrolux T57830 Lavatherm
Bosch WTE86304 Exxcel
Siemens WT46E387 GB

AEG-Electrolux are the most reliable brand out of those. They're all fairly expensive machines though.

They've also got a 'don't buy' against a White Knight machine, the CL 767, for being inefficient and not actually condensing very well. Shame, as like others here I like my cheapo White Knight machine (vented though).

Cleaning a tumble drier? Clean wet clothes go in, lint comes out of filter, what else is there to clean?!

Halster · 17/07/2007 10:17

We have an 'A' energy rated John Lewis model (built by AEG). V expensive but uses half the energy of a normal drier (so less guilt for me) and I worked out it would pay for itself in less than two years - and came with a 3 year guarantee. Was one of the which? best buys too I think.

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 10:19

I have a triple a rated hoover and its lovely
it wasnt cheap though

FioFioJane · 17/07/2007 10:19

mines a 7kg one too....

MuffinMclay · 17/07/2007 10:20

I have a John Lewis condenser one. Very happy with it. Surprisingly quick at drying(much quicker than the Zanussi it replaced, but that was a few years old).

Flower3554 · 17/07/2007 10:28

Does anyone else find the condenser dryers very loud. Ours is an Indesit one with the water container at the top, I don't know if that makes them noisier.

Birdly · 17/07/2007 10:53

We've got a John Lewis condenser drier - it's great. It replaced a Hotpoint, which was truly terrible.

I heard that the John Lewis ones are made by AEG, too, so they should be good. And the JL guarantee is excellent.

maisym · 17/07/2007 13:03

thanks for all the replies - will check out some dryers at the shops tomorrow....

OP posts:
MuffinMclay · 17/07/2007 15:10

I'm not sure if mine is loud or not, I'm afraid. I keep it in the garage. I can hear the beeping when it has finished from the house, but not the drying itself, so I guess it can't be too bad.
