Thinking about getting one but really don't know how to decide which one to choose...

Any advice?

I made my own. Had a bag that seemed the right size and just popped the things in. Did buy a mama and pappas portable changing mat thing (I keep it in the bottom of the pushchair) - which has proved very useful.

Never had one - just used a small rucksack from millets and used a towel as a changing mat.

I bought one which unfolded into a changing mat with pockets on either side with all your bits and peices to hand. I NEVER use it (and it was about 50 quid!) reason being the only place of the bits and bobs and millions of little toys I ended up carrying was a small pocket on the back which you had to completely empty to use the changing mat.

I now use the one I get free with my cheap buggy, (M&P) its a rucksack with front and side pockets. I use a cheap changing mat I got from ebay as one supplied was v small. The things I find I need are pockets to keep bottles/cups/pots of yogurt upright. a really easily accessable pocket for baby wipes! and versatile space for shopping/toys/snacks/spare clothes. I could do with a divider in the big section to keep the food away from the change of clothes though

The one thing I would say is that my original bag is brilliant if you go places that don't have baby change facilitys. shame I never do though...

You'll get a voucher for a free Huggies one from Boots if you join their parenting club - if you are not bothered about "fashion" and accessorising then just use that - it's a great size, has a little plastic changing mat and loads of pockets etc.

First one didnt have zipper top and lost things falling out when on back of buggy - and had wallet nicked once too!Cant recall name but clipped onto buggy - never used that facility - always jusy put strap over handles.

Second one Oilily - expensive but love it! Got cheaper than usual via ebay.

Also bought 'masculine' one first time so dh wouldnt be embarrassed carrying it. This time thought sod it and went very girly. He still carries it

With both thought change mats were bulky and didnt use. Carried pampers disposible ones as much more compact and could reuse until an accident occured!

I have to say that with DD1 I went down the cheaper freebie route but I hated all thebags I ever had - remember you carry this bag around with you for a verylong time!

With DD2 I decided to get the bag that I had originally wanted (Oioi hobo) about £50 and I love it. DH doesn't feel like a girl when he has it and I will be happy to use it even when I don;t need it for nappies - just extra stuff that kids need.

My advice would be try the cheaper freebie route but if your not happy bugger the budget and get the one you want!

boompi · 16/07/2007 13:50

Must add my friends with Oioi bags love them and they look great!

nailpolish · 16/07/2007 13:53

i wouldnt have been seen dead with a changing bag

i bought a gorgeous bag from accessorise
like this with plenty pockets. bought a travel change mat and hey presto.

nicer than those wipe clean jobbies

chilledmama · 16/07/2007 13:57

I have a SkipHop Dash which is really good. Lots of pockets and seperated areas and it opens up nice and wide so I can hold of everything one handed. It has a change mat with it and either clips onto pushchair handles or you can sling over handlebars just as easy. The SkipHop duo is good as well but doesn't have the lid IYSWIM. link below so you can have a look.

Having had 2 "proper" nappy bags, I can honestly say that the Tesco Value rucksack I bought last week (£4) is much better than both of them.

dressedupnowheretogo · 16/07/2007 14:14

my changing bag is eithe r a dora rucksack or a fifi rucksack and they zip and fit brilliantly on my bggy handles

ladymac · 16/07/2007 14:18

I love my SkipHop Duo, have a stripy one which I think looks a bit Paul Smith! You can carry it on your shoulder or clip it on to the pram/buggy handles.

Someone bought me a Bugaboo one to match my pushchair. It was about £70 and I hated it. Can't get anything out of it, 2 big bottle pockets and I'm BFing, have to take outer cover off in order to unzip it. I have very guiltily shoved it at the back of a cupboard.

ScottishMummy · 16/07/2007 15:48

have a lookey at this website - some fabby bags
happybags.co.uk/oioi or ebay for a wee bargain ... i love changing bags got four o 'em

dcb · 17/07/2007 09:54

used an old bag i used to use for work from gap, with a few pockets in and bought a pink changingmat from jojomaman with pockets in. it's a black "saddle" bag so dh will carry it. you can spend your money on other things then.

MrsBadger · 17/07/2007 10:26

naily has the right idea

get a fold-up changing mat and a big handbag

Roskva · 17/07/2007 10:46

Get one of these - it's brilliant, and just as useful if you use disposables rather than cloth nappies. You can chuck it in any bag, or just under the buggy.

boo64 · 17/07/2007 12:16

I now use my OiOi as a laptop bag - was great as a nappy bag when ds was younger and we needed everything to hand but I got fed up after carrying the same bag every day for a year so treated myself to a nice leather handbag that is big enough for everything and use the Pampers mats like someone else did - they can be reused for ages provided dc doesn't have an accident

GrimoireThief · 17/07/2007 12:21

I ditched my purpose-made changing bag after about 3 months and now just use an ordinary, roomy shoulder bag. Does the job!

fedupwasherwoman · 17/07/2007 12:21

Used the huggies freebie one both times, useful fold up padded changing mat and outside pockets for bottles plus divided internal sections and a zip up section at the front.

V useful although it is a wipe clean exterior and pennies saved went in ds's savings accounts

Very sanctimonious me !
