Emmaljunga/Kidabout "Skippy Joey" pushchairs

katmam · 12/08/2002 15:43

I have tried (and failed!) several times to contact Emmaljunga - using the number from mumsnet, as I want to find out where I can buy an Emmaljunga Husky pushchair with detachable toddler seat. Does anyone know of any stockists in the Portsmouth or Southampton area of Hampshire?

I'm also trying to find stockists of the Kidabout "Skippy Joey" pushchair, which is basically the same type of thing as the Husky - their phone number doesn't work and I'm still waiting for a reply to my e-mail.

Can anyone help?

I know you can go to their homepage and (hopefully) find some stockist-information from there. At least here in Sweden they have stopped making the Husky but that mightn't apply to England.

Ingster · 22/09/2002 17:27

Forgot to add the homepage address... www.emmaljunga.com (sorry...)

pluto · 22/09/2002 19:58

ooooo, I LOVE Emmaljunga! The UK prices are a total rip off compared to Sweden.

jennifersofia · 23/09/2002 19:19

If you look in the noticeboard section of mumsnet there seem to be several Huskys for sale second hand. I have an Emmaljunga, but not a Husky, and we love it! Brilliant for steering, well made, good design etc.
Good luck.

katmam · 24/09/2002 12:03

Thanks for your messages. I did eventually get through to Emmaljunga and the lady said that the Husky has indeed been discontinued, but there are loads of them for sale second hand. I also got a list of the stockists in my area, and no-one stocks any Emmaljunga products at all!

My problem now is that dd has exceeded the 15kg weight limit for the toddler seat. Not sure how strict the weight limit is - dd's not a particularly huge child (although she is tall) compared to her friends of a similar age. Not sure what to do now - anyone got any advice, or should I just knock the idea on the head?

Hello katmam,
I too was concerned about the weight limit on the toddler seat for the emmaljunga. One store owner who stocks the emmaljungas (I think it was Lilliputs in Battersea, London) told me 'unofficially' that the 15 kg is simply what they are required to test to for British safety standards, so they don't go beyond that and many of their customers used the seats beyond this weight limit. The other thing, which I found more reassuring, was that the woman whom I bought my emmaljunga from said that she definitely used her tod.seat well beyond this weight limit (and sent pictures to prove!) and there was never any problem. The main thing to watch out for was that the pram didn't tip up if left unattended with heavy child in seat and light baby in back. As baby no.2 has not yet arrived (due in 4 days!) I haven't used that toddler seat yet, so I cannot tell you from personal experience. However, when I looked at the fixings, they all seemed very sturdy. That said, the type of emmaljunga I have is the large 'old fashioned' pram type, not the Husky, which I think is more like a pushchair. Sorry to be so long winded, hope this helps.

katmam · 30/09/2002 12:44

Thanks for that Jennifersofia. I heard one woman say that the toddler seat will take the weight of a 5 year old(!) I will keep my eyes out for a 2nd had emmaljunga, but my cousin has just dug out her Silver Cross pram for me (hooray!) so I might not need a new pushchair after all (although I do have a bit of a thing about pushchairs ...!)

Good luck with baby number 2 - seem to have been quite a few girlies arrived over the weekend!

Hi, I am selling my " Skippy Joey" I abosolutely love, love, love mine. But my husband flipped when I told him how much I paid, and my 3 yr.old won't sit in a stroller any more. So I need to get something more for my needs. It is only 1 1/2 months old and is in new condit. other than the foot rest is cracking slightly.(I have tons of accessories for it all of them with the original packaging.Too many to list, unless you would like me to. I have only used it 4 times. I can't tell you how many people stopped me when I was out to comment on how beautiful it was and that it was the coolest stroller they had ever seen. As for practicality, it is so awesome to have the ability of a single or a double in one stroller. It is narrow so you can manuver easily. And very roomy for both children! Has a very large storage on the bottom.(For a mom that's very important!!!! Can I say, the mall!!!!!!!) Any how I can go on and on as to how classy, practical, and absolutely beautiful this pushcart is, but it sounds like you know. I am putting it on ebay, but if Katmam or someone is interested in mine, please let me know. I have some awesome pictures of mine if you would like me to e-mail them to you. I don't know how this site works, so be patient with me. I am very sad to have to let it go, but my husband says it's either him or the stroller. I did have to think about it a little.(Ha,ha.)

Hey
I am absolutely going bananas. I have been bidding on ebay for the 1st time for an Emmaljunga pram with toddler seat - the answer to all my prayers (I hope) but I have been outbid & am now bidding for the pam & attachment seperately. So if you know anyone selling one in good condition - boys colours, I would be interested in seeing pics!! I have just heard about the skippy joey - what is this?? It sounds interesting, any pics or links anyone?? I may as well go completely nits & start searching for one of these. I must of been barmy to have two kids close together!!

jennifersofia · 15/06/2006 22:33

ellemo - hello - where are you based? I am in London and we have the emmaljunga toddler seat which we used but now no longer need. If you want it and can collect it, you can have it for free. It was fantastic for us. Leave a message on here if you are interested.

ellemo · 15/06/2006 22:45

Hi, I am in Lancashire - used to be in Canary Wharf, London, that would of been handy!!! If it met my needs I would pay the postage & pay you something for it. It has just been mission impossible trying to source this pram. It would be a great solution to my 'wants to walk everywhere' toddler. Whats the colour/condition etc.. & do you have all attachments? thanks for response - Michelle

jennifersofia · 15/06/2006 22:54

Hi, attachments, yes (hardware to attach to pram, I presume). Navy blue. Pretty good condition. I will have to double check in the loft to make sure all the bits are there. Only thing is I don't know if it would fit on a non-Emmaljunga pram, IYSWIM. Do you have an Emmaljunga? I dunno - maybe it would fit on another pram. I will have to have a re-look at the fittings. The one that we had ours on was the large perambulator type. I will try and have a check at the w/end and get back to you.

ellemo · 15/06/2006 23:04

Excellent - well I should have an Emmaljunga by Sunday - am bidding on ebay for one (there are a few) Its the Emmaljunga classic. Navy. Like I say, I really need the seat & so if you dug it out & sent it to me I would make sure its worth your while. How about - as soon as I know that I have secured the pram - I let you know & we take it from there?? Thanks for being so helpful. Am gonna sign off now & go & feed baby #2 - hopefully this feed will see him through til the morning but he is showing classic signs of being ready for solids!! Just not sure I can contemplate potty training one & weaning another at the same time - oh & moving house. Am not so smug now reality has kicked in! Many thanks again, be in touch tomorrow or over weekend. Mich(elle Mo)rley

ellemo · 16/06/2006 09:33

jennifersophia - I have secured the pram. yippee, am so so happy & so yeh if you are willing to search the loft I would love the toddler seat (god, I hope it'll be compatable). If you can get a price for posting I will send you a cheque to cover that & pay you something for the seat itself. My personal email is [email protected] (or .com - I can never remember that bit). Many thanks - you have saved my sanity, I am now excited about long summer walks. Mich x

jennifersofia · 18/06/2006 22:26

Hi, just so you know that I have read this message, and got your email - sorry, haven't had a chance to get into loft yet, planning on doing that tomorrow, and will email you then. Jennifer

ellemo · 19/06/2006 08:19

Thats so great of you. I brought the pram home yesterday. Am thrilled with it. Just can't wait to get out & about now with both babes. At least babe #2 will be safe when I walk by roads & river, then he can run wild when its safe. Sort all details with you when you're ready. Thank you.

ellemo · 24/06/2006 10:23

Hey Jennifer

Hope you've had a good week, weather here been miserable. When will summer arrive?? Just a msg to let you know I am still searching the internet for a toddler seat, to no avail & so would be dead grateful to you if your offer of digging yours out still stands. Realise the prospect of going into the loft can't be appealing & I'm sure you've heaps more pressing things to be doing. Just let me know either way what you decide to do. I know that the original offer was to collect but like I say, I will cover postage. If you decide its too much faffing about, thats ok, totally understandable. Just let me know then I don't keep logging on here & mythering you. Have a happy weekend. Michelle

ellemo · 29/06/2006 20:12

Hey Jennifer
How are you? I haven't heard from you since your last email so I presume maybe you are away or something. Ok, I have still been searching for a toddler seat & I found one locally. It was £20 & obviously I collected it so that saves you a trip into the loft!!! Thanks so much for the offer. Top tip, if you are a member - those seats are going for between £45 & £80 on ebay. I wasn't prepared to pay more than £40 (they were only £45 new)but there are so many people looking for them that you could make yourself enough money to pay for a nice meal out!!! Worth selling if you know you won't use it again.
Thanks again for the offer - sorry I got all impatient but didn't wanna put all my eggs in one basket if you mean.

lenats34 · 27/08/2006 09:20

Hi all,

Emmaljunga´s toddlerseats are testet with 15 kg. however that doesn´t mean they will not carry more than 15 kg. It is merely the weight they have been tested with. The problem is that this kind of toddler attachtment - both Emmaljunga and other brands - are known to cause stability problems in prams and pushchairs. This explains why Emmaljunga nolonger produce these toddler attachtments.
