If not what would you recommend?

I need a good, but compact travel cot that will last up till about 18months.

Hi there,

This thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little of date.

We've spent months researching and testing portable cots and cribs, take a look at our round up of the Mumsnet best travel cots suitable for babies and toddlers up to three years old.

Hope that helps,

MNHQ Flowers

Yes got it
Useful in an emergency eg when hotel failed to provide travel cot as requested

Useless once baby is crawling

Graco seem to be the market leader in travel cots but they are quite short

massivebigpantsface · 10/07/2007 19:12

dd is nearly six months. I had heard that once they are crawling/sitting they can roll the whole thing over even though they are designed for use up until 18months.

anyone else?

we have one and used it for dd. She never had any problem and never rolled it over although at 12 months I do recall her walking around the room in it .
We mainly used it for use inside a cot iykwim as dh & I never liked putting it onto the floor and never liked dd sleping in a 2nd hand cot so used to put her into it in the cot iykwim.

Still got it so it will now be used for ds. IMO a good buy BUT we didn't get a huge amount of use out of it..but then never really stayed away much.!!

massivebigpantsface · 11/07/2007 15:30

thankyou - interesting to know. i really like the idea as they are so small but was concerned as so how safe they are.

i never found safety an issue..Till dd was bigger I suppose BUT then think our last holiday away was when dd was 12 months..thats when ds was conceived !!. So not used it beyond 12 months..imo above 12 months it would be useless if used on its own as I would worry that baby could somehow climb out, unlike a cot..Some 12-18 months old are clever you know .

amidaiwish · 11/07/2007 21:04

i had one, sold it to a mumsnetter!
it is only any good until they can stand up because then they can tip it.
they're also not great if you are going to put it on a tiled floor (cold), it needs to go on carpet or with a blanket or something underneath.

i have this one from baby dan baby dan and i really think it is great. it is also longer than many others. DD2 is 21m and still sleeps in here happily with lots of room.

teafortwoandtwofortea · 11/07/2007 21:09

Haven't had one of those but did have a little life twin arc which was a bit fiddly to put up but the benefit was that the child can't climb out - they say it does until age 3 but TBH DS2 has been a bed since 2.3yrs. Very good quality though - will be putting mine on ebay soon but if you're interested...

The absolute best lightweight ones IMHO are the nomad travel cots with the blow up mattress but they're a bit pricey.

Sexonknackeredlegs · 11/07/2007 21:17

We have one, but I thought they could only be used until baby could sit up?

It has been useful for day trips, rather than dragging the moses basket around or having to put them in a travel cot which is a pain to put up for a day snooze only.

massivebigpantsface · 11/07/2007 21:18

they do look good but I wanted something very easy to put up as it will be for using once a week when dd is at mils. Do like the nomad cots but as you say they are a bit pricey!

there are two sizes sexonknackeredlegs

  • the baby one
  • the toddler one
teafortwoandtwofortea · 11/07/2007 21:38

oooh - have just noticed little life are doing a rip off of the nomads one here - don't know how much but certainly looks easier to put up than the one I have.

Jojay · 11/07/2007 21:43

I've borrowed a friend's but the mattress seemed really thin.

Prefer a normal travel cot myself, even though they do weigh a tonne. They feel more substantial.

massivebigpantsface · 12/07/2007 14:09

i just bought a Graco petite bassinette, its great, really easy to set up and can be used up to 14kg/86cm. Boots reduced to £48 from £60!
