Britax Cosy Tot Premium car seat - wobbly??

We've just been trying to fit our new car seat in the back seat of our old VW Golf, and I wanted some advice because it doesn't seem quite right.

I'm 99% certain we've fitted it according to the instructions, but if you hold the carry handle and give it a wiggle it soon becomes quite loose - I can't imagine this is the way it should be as it just seems too wobbly.

Has anyone used this seat/car combo successfully and can you give me any tips? I've tried it in both of the back seats of the car (the front seat has an airbag so can't use) and both me and my husband have had a go.

We bought it from 2 left feet over the internet so can't go back to the shop and ask them to fit it for us, but was thinking of begging for help from John Lewis or Mothercare. Have 2 weeks until due date...

defintiely go to john lewis / mothercare / halfords and pretend you are going to buy it and ask to try it in your car and them show you how etc

(you dont have to tell them you already own one )

most of the people there are trained to fit seats.... but even some of the trained people arnt that good so be prepared to go to 2 or 3 shops and see what they all say rather than just relying on one person who may be telling you wrong.

A properly fitting car seat should not move much / at all when fitted.

(I assume you are putting the lap bit of the belt over the 'lap bit / babies legs' of the baby carrier and the shoulder bit around the back?)

I find putting the lap bit on first then pulling really tight, before putting the shoulder bit around the back helps get a really tight fit. dont be afraid to pull on the seat belts as hard as you can pull to get it really tight

also be sure there is no buckle crunch.... where the seatbelt buckle rests against the car seat

There is a section in the Britax website that specify if a certain britax seat will be ok with a particular model of car.

If it is a baby carrier (the kind of basket one, without a base that attaches independantly to the car), it will be a bit woobly, as the car seatbelts only stay tight if you're breaking.

The seatbelt has to be very tight around the routing and good idea to put some potatoes in ! Experiment with the angle of the seat too, it may need to be more horizontal than you imagine.

I find those infant car seats very wobbly anyway. I used to fit the bit over the legs and then hang my entire 20st weight on the seatbelt to pull it tight before fitting it around the back of the carseat.
And still they wobbled. (we had a britax one, a bebe confort one and a maxi cosi one, they all wobbled a bit)

infant car seats are supposed to be quite loose and wobbly. i imagine that you've fitted it correctly and that it's fine. the way to test whether it is secure and safe in your car is to fit it and then hit the back(bit where baby will be resting) hard with your hand. if it doesn't move forwards, it's safe. they are wobbly when you move it from side to side.
can't hurt to go to halfords and double check tho

Thanks for your good advice everyone. We went to Mothercare last night and got their car seat expert to demonstrate how it works. Turns out it was fine all along, and just me being paranoid

Phew! Thanks again
