I've just bought my 3 year old nephew a tool set which he loves, doctors kit, paints, ELC happy people are a big hit with my other nephew, car transporter, pop up books

muddaofsuburbia · 08/09/2004 14:36

Ds is 2 today!! We got him a marching drum with drumsticks - the kind you wear round your neck and also loads of books.

Otherwise anything with wheels on it!! Matchbox cars etc. Don't worry too much if the age range is not for under 3s - unless it's got really tiny parts on it, he'll love it -just check with his mum before he opens it.

I came across a good idea (if I could do links I'd stick it in).. it's a book a month from either red house or red fox book company (sorry wasn't paying attention!!!)
you pay about 30 quid (may be too much for you though) and the child gets a different book a month for 12 months...

Other than that the usual trains, cars, boats, planes and tractors usually go down well!

jampot · 08/09/2004 14:36

Anything from ELC as CB recommended. My ds has the dino track from there - its modular so you can keep adding track or cars, or bridges etc.

jampot · 08/09/2004 14:37

Or what about walkie talkies????? my children loved theirs

woodpops · 08/09/2004 14:38

ELC and Argos now sell a toy Black and Decker (I think) drill just like daddies, ds thinks it's fab wants to fix everything with daddy. It's from 2 years but dd 20 months has hours of fun out of it as well. We've even been out and brought him a 'real' tool box to keep all of his tools in. He takes it everywhere with him.

Lonelymum · 08/09/2004 14:40

When ds1 was 2 we got him a garage for his cars. Also, one of those friction type cars where you push it downwards as well as forwards and it travels a long way (hope that makes sense).
Anything vehicular - cars, trains, planes, etc seem to please most 2 yo boys.

Northerner · 08/09/2004 14:43

I'll agree with what has been said, my ds is 2.6 and he loves cars, trains, tractors, fire engines etc. He also loves his tool kit and doctors kit, and adores his magna doodle.

scotlou · 08/09/2004 15:02

toolkit (you can get good ones in a plastic case for aout £10 from Toysrus - my 4.5 year old still plays with his)
wooden train track - the Tescos basic one is good and cheap
If you've got more money to spend, try and get hold of a Bin Lorry made by a German company called Bruder - they're about £ 40 and meant from 3 years old - but they're great and you'll get lots of Brownie point if you find one!

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 15:03

wooden puzzles
try googling for wooden toys or plan toys uk

fuzzywuzzy · 08/09/2004 15:07

Right thank-you all, I think a tool kit and puzzle and book should do it. Not going anywhere near cars, dn has a penchant for taking wheels off and chewing them when no-one is looking .
Thank-you very much.

i like this site
wooden toys here

KateandtheGirls · 08/09/2004 15:09

I was about to suggest puzzles, something like this.

I try not to buy my girls typically "Girly" toys, although now that my older one is about to turn 5 she's starting to request that kind of thing, and I personally wouldn't buy my nephew "boy" toys like tools and trucks. I much prefer to get things like puzzles and "educational" toys. It depends on your personal preference I suppose.

LIZS · 08/09/2004 15:09

At 2 ds enjoyed
Brio Builder tool kit / construction set (like Meccano but wooden and chunky)
Fisher Price Little People
Character figure sets such as Bob the Builder, Noddy etc
Simple remote control car
Pop Up tunnel and tent
Sand and water toys
Tomy Megasketcher
as well as cars, trains, books, puzzles and so on.

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 15:13

elc do some electronic wooden puzzles with musical reward
you could use the 10% discount code if it still works

earlygirl · 08/09/2004 15:16

theres another site called d and a toys
i did a link on a previous thread that have lego quattro(big lego better than duplo) at about half price

catgirl · 08/09/2004 15:55

my ds was two on Sunday and loves a gift by "playmobil" - has a boat, parasol, plane, people and a fish/croc/dolphin thing (we can't decide!) - from the label, looks like you can get lots of different 'sets' - has turned into the most played with present.
