Anyone used the 'hitchhiker seat' as buggy board - quick advice needed

I did start a thread on buggyboards a while ago as I need one to fit my Mothercare Pinnacle 3 wheeler. The universal buggyboard was recommended and I have finally ordered it and it arrived today.

However, the PHP catalogue also arrived through my door and flicking through it I saw the hitchhiker seat, which allows the child to sit down. I'm worried that my dd won't want to stand up all the time as she doesn't walk far at the moment and this looks more ideal. I wonder how good they really are in practice though - I've never seen anyone with one?

Also wonder whether it really will fit my pushchair. I did ring PHP and they said my Mothercare pushchair wasn't on the list of pushchairs they had that it DIDN'T FIT, but couldn't provide me with measurements of how far apart and how high the attachments fit etc.

Hoping someone out there has got one and can tell me what it's like?

Anyone?

Doesn't look like anyone has used one of these then, or come across anyone who has?

Thought I'd have one last try at putting this back on the 'active' list. My universal buggyboard has arrived and really unsure whether to send it back and get a hitchhiker seat instead, so any advice from anyone would be really welcome...

Ive not heard of it, but sounds quite good , is there a link to an online website ?? Will be interested in what users have to say. Just keep bumping it distracted.

Debbiethemum · 12/09/2004 17:53

I don't know if mine is the hitchhiker seat, but I do have a seat that attaches to the pushchair (M&P Pliko).

I HATE IT.

Beacause it is designed so that ds is supposed to face me, I have to stand so far away from the pushchair that i feels like I am bent double to reach the handles and it kills my back.

Currently it is sitting in the meter cupboard waiting for dh to see if he can modify it so it can be used without the footrest making ds face forwards.

Thanks Melsy and Debbiethemum. Here is a link showing a picture with child sitting on seat: hitchhiker seat with child on

In case that doesn't work, here is another, but doesn't show it actually attached to a pushchair:

Debbiethemum - does this look like your seat? If so, then I certainly won't get it as sounds like a really bad idea.

I did do a google search and found 3 positive reviews of it on 'ciao' (not come across 'ciao' before though).

I have used one on a M'care urban detour, and it fits ok, but I can't use the brake properly!

I do like the fact ds could sit down though, and will be using it for dd too soon. It is quite funny because when they sit down other people can't really see them, and think you are talking to yourself! Didn't use it loads, but was great for long outings. You can get all manner of fittings to fit it to larger frame oushchairs etc.

smellymelly · 13/09/2004 10:13

Opps - pushchairs, not oushchairs!

Distracted · 13/09/2004 10:28

Ah at last someone who has definitely used it and on my pushchair too (or v. similar anyway)! Thanks Smellymelly, glad you did find it useful - bit worrying about not being able to use the brake though, as I find that with the rubber tyres this pushchair can run away at great speed if you let go of it at all! Or did you just mean that it was awkward rather than not being able to use the brake at all?

OP posts:
smellymelly · 13/09/2004 10:31

I basically had to hold onto the pushchair constantly when I used it, but we did not use it every day, so I coped.

smellymelly · 13/09/2004 10:32

I think you can still use the brake, it has been a while since I used it, but was definitely awkward, so I just didn't let go!!

HTH

Distracted · 13/09/2004 10:35

Did you find that your ds did want to sit down a lot? If I was sure that dd would stand then I'd just stick with the universal buggy board, but just think if she's tired she'll want to sit down, as currently she doesn't walk a lot.

DON'T GO THERE!!!! I have one sitting outside my front door as we speak, waiting for the council to collect it. Hated it for the same reasons as Debbiethemum, and dd1 hated it because she felt insecure (nothing to hold on to).

smellymelly · 13/09/2004 10:39

Oh I just remembered, ds couldn't stand up on it as the detour hood was in the way, (a friend of mine move it down on hers) so he had to sit down, but was happy to do that.

As I said we hardly used it, he was nearly 3 anyway, so didn't need it for long.

vivie · 18/09/2004 17:09

Please can someone tell me where to get the universal buggy board - thanks!

Yes, it is the blue one I have, forgot to mention the huge thunk as it goes down the kerb & ds complaining it hurts his bottom.

Sorry for the delay in replying
