thinking of getting a babasling for my baby due in 6 weeks, are these any good or is it just a con!!

i have a ds thats 3.6 and thought it might be a good idea so i could still have my hands free for him whilst having the baby close any ideas???

or are there any other brands that are better?

I have used a hotsling nearly every day since I bought it, very quick to get baby in and out for the school run etc. but now she weighs 20lb it starts to make my shoulder ache after about 1hr. I also use a wraparound which is much comfier for long periods but fiddlier to get on and off.

the babasling idea is based on that of the pouch sling (like a hotsling). imo, i would like to keep it simple. there isn't any need for buckles and padded sides. If you want a sling that is adjustable, then look at ring slings. Pouch slings are non adjustable but online sellers are usually big enthusiasts and will take the time to advise you so you don't make a mistake. enquire that if you do make a mistake that they will do exchanges.

i found pouch slings (and ring slings) very well suited for my newborn and even now that dd is 26 months and 26 pounds, i use my pouch for hip carries for short times as that is heavy.

as already said, the wrap sling is excellent for long times even for heavy toddlers. from about 4 months to heavy toddlers, mei-tais are a dream

btw, martini, if you like the look and idea of a babasling, i don't think it is a con. just my opinions get in my way sometimes.

i have recommended the yahoo group UKbabywearingSWAP before here on MN if you haven't already seen that. it is a v. good place to find a pre-loved carrier. the mummies who carry are going to be v. helpful if what they have is likely to work for you.

Kangaroo Korner are fab for slings. I have their adjustable fleece pouch and still use it with DS (21 months). Their website has lots of information on different types of slings so is worth a look.

I'm a big ergo fan too.
