Clogs things up and poss. carcinogenic.
You don't need any of that baby crap.

nomdeplume · 03/07/2007 20:27

it has been linked to cervical cancer(although never proven)

Scanner · 03/07/2007 20:27

not good for babies to inhale, what's the point of it.

Hathor · 03/07/2007 20:28

I think the tiny particles of silica(?) can cause some kind of cancer (lung?)

Johnsons baby powder was all the rage when I was tiny.

pinkspottywellies · 03/07/2007 20:28

Fine dust not good in lungs too.

pinkspottywellies · 03/07/2007 20:29

ooh sorry had to sign in - very slow!

SoupDragon · 03/07/2007 20:29

Get a cornstarch one instead.

nomdeplume · 03/07/2007 20:30

there is particulr corncern about using it to powder baby girls' nappy areas.

Idobelieveinfairies · 03/07/2007 20:32

Blimey i didn't know this, i have just started using it on my 2.8 toddlers now they are out of the baby stage. Is this new advice or been about for a while?

SoupDragon · 03/07/2007 20:42

Been about for some time I think - certainly 8 years or so.

Neals Yard do a cornstarch one (talc free). In the US cornstarch powders are readily available alongside the normal baby powder. You still need to be careful about the dust being inhaled though.

drea100 · 03/07/2007 20:44

When I was in nursing a couple of years ago a research article came out alerting medical staff that there was an increase in genital cancers in elderly people who lived in care homes - was attributed to use of talc - I think this prompted further studies and there is a seeming strong link indicating that talc is carcinogenic.

Idobelieveinfairies · 03/07/2007 20:46

I heard years ago about the fine powder and a possible link to cot death, had never hear of the cervical cancer thing tho.

I just find powder great for dusting them down after swimming- can get them dressed quicker before they get away!

Will check out the other stuff instead.
